Choir Visit to Liverpool Cathedral
Mrs McKenna, music director, and the school chaplain, Mairie, were delighted to accompany a number of our musicians and choir members to Liverpool Cathedral this week. We were there to meet with Charlie Potts, a past student, who is now at Oxford and is ‘on tour’ with St Peter’s College Music and Choir. For many students, this was their first visit to this beautiful cathedral, and we were able to have a good look around and absorb the atmosphere of this prayerful place in the city. The extraordinary sound of the College choir only added to the sense of being in a sacred space. After listening to the choir in practice, we were able to attend the Vigil Mass for Ss Peter and Paul alongside other members of the congregation and hear the music in the setting of the Mass. After the Mass we spent some time with the choir talking about their experiences applying for and being at Oxford, the benefits of being in a choir and other opportunities for our students to consider. This was a uniquely wonderful opportunity for our students, and we thank Charlie and the College choir for the invitation and their time.
I was lucky enough to be invited, along with a few other students to Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral Of Christ The King (known locally as Paddy’s Wigwam). We had a tour, listened to the St Peters College Choir rehearse and sing at Mass.
