Homework is a key way in which we encourage our students to develop the skills, confidence and motivation needed to study effectively on their own. We know that it helps raise academic standards through consolidating and reinforcing skills and understanding developed in school.
The tabs above contain the homework timetable for each year group. The timetables show how many pieces of homework should be set per subject and how long each piece should take to complete. To summarise, each subject should set one piece of homework every other lesson and the length of time taken to complete the tasks increases with age.
Teachers also have the flexibility to combine homework tasks together to make one longer piece. When this happens students will record this as two homework tasks in their diaries. Where possible teachers will avoid setting tasks for submission the following day, but this may not always be possible.
Teachers will record the homework information on Ruler but there is also an expectation that students will record homework in their diaries. This will enable two ways for you to monitor the completion of homework tasks. If you do not have a Ruler password at present or have forgotten it, please email forgotten@st-nicholas.cheshire.sch.uk
We do ask that you support your child with their homework by providing a quiet place for them to work, checking the time spent on individual tasks and signing the student diary each week.
If you have any further questions regarding homework please either contact the relevant subject teacher or subject leader.
