Charities

Catholic Social Teaching encourages active participation in charitable work to provide for the vulnerable, suffering and marginalised individuals and communities, locally and globally. The Year of Mission declared by Bishop Mark continues the theme of Pope Francis’ Year of Mercy, revealing the merciful face of the Father to all.

Students and staff at St Nicholas Catholic High School are involved in several charitable projects. Events such as the annual Mini Market, which takes place each October, Lenten charities, as well as individual days throughout the year enable and invite students to be proactive in showing care and compassion for others. As well as fundraising, the students have collected foodstuffs to make Christmas hampers and Easter Eggs. Charity events are organised by the Faith in Action group: this is comprised of the chaplain and volunteer members of school staff who meet regularly to coordinate events.

Recently, the school community has worked together to support many charities including:

  • CAFOD
  • Cancer Research
  • CARITAS Shrewsbury
  • Cheshire Autism Practical Support (Chaps)
  • Debra
  • Mid-Cheshire Foodbank
  • Local parishes and schools
  • Macmillan
