Headteacher’s Welcome

Headteacher's Welcome

A very warm welcome to St Nicholas Catholic High School.

This is a unique, caring, Catholic community in which amazing things happen and, fundamentally, everyone matters.

In my capacity as Acting Headteacher for the Lent Term, I want to take the opportunity to state how honoured I was to be asked by Governors to lead the school for this period. Having served our wonderful St Nicholas community for nearly 10 years, I have been regularly humbled to witness the tremendous outcomes, in all spheres of school life, which result from the combined effort of students, staff and families. St Nicholas Catholic High School is a truly inspiring environment.

As a Catholic school, we strive for academic excellence rooted within the spiritual, moral and personal growth of all our students. All of this we do in positive partnership with our parents, our parishes, our primary schools, the Diocese of Shrewsbury and our many other community partners. The Gospel values of dignity, compassion, truth, justice and forgiveness permeate all that we do and students are encouraged to recognise the importance of education in their own fulfilment as valued individuals for the betterment of society and the common good.

Our curriculum and learning experience for students is vibrant, relevant and engaging. Alongside this, we also offer wonderful enrichment and co-curricular opportunities for students across all year groups which look to deepen our unique learning experience. Residential retreats, Duke of Edinburgh, Mock Trials, Choir and band tours, alongside Mission Days and a vast array of sporting opportunities all serve to support your child’s experience here at St Nicholas.

Underpinning our success is the daily commitment to our 4Rs approach at St Nicholas: respect for yourself; respect for others; respect for our school; and ready to learn. Students and staff live out our Catholic values every day here in school through their attitude to our 4Rs and I am proud of the very special ethos our faith inspires.

We are blessed that our students and families each day help us to achieve the high expectations of our 4Rs: every positive choice each student makes in all aspects of school life contributes to the high standards we all enjoy at St Nicholas. Indeed, visitors regularly comment on the friendly, orderly and purposeful atmosphere within our school. Our Mission Statement lays down the values and principles that are the foundation of this community and we try hard to live up to these ideals.

We are all extremely proud of our school and I hope that you find our website both useful and informative. Our best ambassadors are our students and I would be delighted to arrange a guided tour for you should you wish to visit us.

Finally, in closing, I share the inspiring words of Pope Francis:

‘The mission of schools and teachers is to develop an understanding of all that is true, good and beautiful.’

May these words always sustain and guide our work at St Nicholas Catholic High School.
