Message from our Chaplain Mairie
Year 11 Celebration Mass
It is good to see that we are getting back to our school traditions slowly but surely and so it was lovely to celebrate with Year 11 at their Celebration Mass this week, especially as we were able to invite parents and other family along to be part of this special moment in their school year. We were grateful, and blessed, to have the school choir with us. Thanks to Fr Paul and Sr Phyllis,  and to everyone who came and who helped to make it a special occasion for our students. Fr Paul spoke to the students about how important it is to make the most of this time and to make the most of themselves, inviting God to be part of their lives in all they do.
Thanks to the PTFA for providing refreshments so that families could have a good catch up after all this time. Continuing prayers and best wishes to Year 11.
Library News

There’s still time to be a part of the Cheshire Book Award

The Cheshire book award will draw to a close at the end of May.  This means that you still have a month to read as many Cheshire Book Award books as possible if you wish to take part.  At the end of May, all the participating students will be invited to a biscuit fuelled meeting to discuss which book to pick as the winner.

The awards ceremony will take place at Winsford Academy on Wednesday 29th June.  Authors Tamsin Winter and George Lester have been confirmed and we are waiting to hear from some of the other nominees.  Students will have the opportunity to meet the authors, purchase books and have them signed during the awards ceremony.  It’ll be a great evening with students across Cheshire taking part so hurry up and sign up if you don’t want to miss out.

Year 11 Spanish and French Speaking Exams.

Good luck to all Year 11s who will be doing their French and Spanish speaking exams next week.

Sporting Success – Volleyball
Jacob Nicholl had a very successful weekend with the North West Volleyball team in Leicester.
The team won the pool stage undefeated, then saw off the West Midlands in the quarter final and the reigning champions Yorkshire in the Semi finals.
Well done to Jacob and the rest of the team!
Parent Focus Group

Our next Parent Focus Group is scheduled for Wednesday 11th May from 6pm to 7pm and will focus our Pastoral Curriculum here at St Nicholas.

Pastoral support for your children remains a key strength of our school community and our curriculum supports their learning and formation across such subjects as online safety, relationships and sex education, Careers, Citizenship as well as personal, social and health education.

As always we would welcome your feedback and suggestions in relation to any of these matters and please email admin@st-nicholas.cheshire.sch.uk if you would like to attend in May.

Accessing the Foodbank

Whilst we hope that everyone is coping well, this is a difficult time for many, and we appreciate that there may be some families who are undergoing hardship because of changes in work or personal circumstances. So that we may support our St Nicholas family we have registered as a referral organisation for the Foodbank. If you would like to have this support, we are able to process an on-line referral and arrange an appointment for you to collect a five-day food package from an agreed centre. For those who are self-isolating, a delivery can be arranged instead, subject to volunteer capacity.

Please do contact me at m.gelling@st-nicholas.cheshire.sch.uk  if we can be of help in this manner. As always, our conversation and any information that we need to pass on to the Foodbank, will be treated with the utmost confidentiality. For alternative access, you can also contact the local Citizens Advice in the Community on 07894 238963
