Lent Charities and Chapel

It has been a very thoughtful and inspiring few weeks as all the students have worked towards their Saints challenge for CARITAS. We have been overwhelmed with the array of activities taking place at form and lunchtime and how many students have been involved in organising and running the events.

We were pleased to hear that our Postcards of Kindness, that were part of the Northwich convoy to Poland, have arrived. It is very touching to think that our prayers and good wishes are possibly being carried by volunteers and refugees across Europe. We continue to pray for Ukraine and all areas of conflict during our Lent liturgies in the chapel. We have been taking time to reflect on our own relationships with each other and the world so as to bring a sense of peace into all our lives.

We thank Fr Paul, who has been celebrating Mass for our staff on Friday mornings, and Sr Phyllis for sharing our prayer time. It has been a lovely opportunity for peace and reflection at the end of the school week.

Lent Charity Events in school

Over the past few weeks the school has been buzzing with activity at break and lunchtimes.

All forms have organised fundraising events – here are some of the great things that have taken place.

10 W organised a penalty shootout for the fundraising.
Lily and Alex were fantastic goalies with only a few pupils ending up in the prize draw.
Congratulations to Tom Freeman, Giorgio Veradi, CeCe Mullen who won Easter Eggs in the draw.
9 Camara have had a busy few weeks fundraising-with many events including Bingo, a chocolate raffle and a Tombola organised by the form group. Congratulations to Edward Bishop 8 Teresa for winning the raffle! Enjoy your chocolate!
7 Camara organised an Easter Egg hamper raffle for Caritas. They each brought in a number of items to create 3 fantastic hampers as prizes to raffle to staff and students, and in doing so have managed to raise just over £120.00!
The winners were – 3rd Place- Harry Bainbridge 8K, 2nd Place- Sophie Eaton 7W, 1st Place- Tom Power 9K
The winner of 10 VP’s Lent Giant Easter egg raffle was Finn Scott in 9C. Huge congratulations to him and thank you to everyone who contributed. We managed to raise £148
Year 9 Maths success!
Alexander Kirkby, Alexander Bickerton, Gemma Chadwick, Bailey Fearn and Ben Petrie were all invited to compete in the UKMT Grey Kangaroo competition on 17 March following their success in the UKMT intermediate challenge. This is a huge achievement for the students being amongst a select group in the country.
Extra congratulations to both Alexander Kirkby and Alexander Bickerton both went on to achieve a certificate of Merit in the Kangaroo competition.
Cheshire Hike

Last weekend some of our St Nicholas students took part in the Cheshire Hike.

There were 3 categories which were all different distances: pathfinder, pathfinder plus and explorers.
It was a fantastic experience and achievement for all of them, they all showed great resilience in completing this. They camped overnight on Saturday and continued to walk again on Sunday.
Ben Leigh and William Robertson year 7 completed the pathfinder (30km)
Edward Mae year 8 and Harry Mitchel year 9 completed the pathfinder plus (40km)
Emily Durney, Jessica Johnson and Sara Hardman year 9 completed the explorers (60km)
Such an a amazing achievement for everyone involved. Well done!
