Prayer Garden
Step Two in our development of the prayer garden. We now have some lovely ‘school blue’ seating in the area for times of quiet reflection and prayer. The two-seater bench with table has been purchased through a donation from the Morris family who did a great deal of fundraising for our students following the Manchester Arena tragedy in 2017.  Our thanks to them for their generous support. Hopefully, the seating here will provide a quiet reflective space for all and for Learning Mentors to meet with students.
Year 13 Celebration Mass
We were delighted to welcome Fr Peter to celebrate Mass for our Year 13 students, parents and staff. This was a wonderful opportunity to come together (as we have had rare chances to do in recent years) and to wish our Year 13 students the very best for their exams and their future path into further education or the world of work.
Uniform Exchange
If anyone is sorting through their uniforms for this or next year, the Uniform Exchange in Winsford would be glad to take any good quality uniforms, trousers, shirts, coats, shoes  or sports clothing.
They are based above the Winsford Community Grocery (the old job centre building), High Street, Winsford. If you would prefer to send items into school we can arrange to have them delivered (please mark for Mairie Gelling/Chaplain). Please remember Year 11 students do have to attend all their exams in full school uniform.

Chemistry Olympiad

We are delighted to announce that four of our Year 13 students here at St Nicholas Catholic High School took part in this year’s Chemistry Olympiad 2022. It is an annual event notorious for being the leading chemistry competition for students across the British Isles. All four students achieved highly, with Noah Martin and Luke Deegan receiving a Bronze award, Toby Mitchell a Silver award and Frank Cockhill-Guy even a Gold award.
The Science Department would in particular like to say a huge congratulations!

Mathematics Success

We received results from the maths challenge last week. Overall 48 students achieved a certificate, putting them in the top 40% of the small proportion of student nationally who take part in the challenge, with Alex Simmons year 7 achieving Best in Year and Edward Smalley year 8 achieving Best in School.
A huge well done to both students and to everyone taking part.
Why not have a go yourself? Here is a question from the middle of the paper, so medium difficulty.
Careers Opportunities

  • Virtual Careers Fair with AECOM: ‘Life After School: Get ready!’ event for 14 – 19 year olds running 4th – 8th July 2022.  This is a virtual careers fair to allow young people from across the UK to find out more about how different sector organisations can support them after they leave school or college.  There will be 25 – 30 different exhibitors hosting interactive resources, information and a text-based chat function.

Sporting Success – European Muay Thai Gold!

A massive well done to Brooke Van Emmenis.

She fought in a European tournament 2 weeks ago and once again smashed her categories, winning European K1 gold and European Muay Thai gold. This takes her to 11 titles.

Hot weather and water bottles

As we enter the hotter summer months, students, parents and carers are reminded to take sensible sun safety precautions

  •  Drink plenty of water to avoid dehydration. Please ensure students have a water bottle which can be refilled in school and/or bottled water can be purchased in the school canteen at break and lunchtime.
  • Use a high-factor sunscreen at least SPF 15 (if possible apply before coming to school and have some with them in school to apply before lunch breaks or extended periods outside/PE lessons, etc)
  • Stay in the shade where possible when outside.
