Message from our Chaplain Mairie

Happy Advent!

On Sunday we entered into the time of Advent, not Christmas. As we begin the season of Advent we have had our first services in the Chapel and we open our hearts to God’s love as we prepare to welcome Christ into our lives and homes.

Our Year Seven students have been doing some lovely reflecting and creating around one of my favourite Psalms, Psalm 139. The students chose a verse and portrayed it in a creative way. Here is an excellent piece of reflective writing, and photos of some of the creative work. Well done, Year 7 !

Reflective writing

In RE we have been looking at the significance of Psalm 139 (one of the 150 psalms that are in the Old Testament). We learnt a deep understanding of this Psalm. A significant line from Psalm 139 was ‘Lord, you search me and you know me.’ Because it shows the most powerful way of saying God is omniscient (all seeing).

It shows that God is omnipotent (all-powerful) and can search and understand our journey and gift us talents, which shows that God is omnibenevolent (kind and pure).

Interestingly, this makes links to God’s ‘work of art’, meaning God’s creation. God says that we are all part of his art piece and we all have a part to play. When we think of God’s work of art we refer to it as a metaphorical term.

Christmas Hamper Appeal

Next week is our Christmas Hamper Appeal for the Foodbank and SVP.  During assemblies this week, all forms have been asked to collect from the foodstuffs and toiletries on the list provided and bring to the chapel by Monday 13th December. We always do really well for this appeal but the need does keep growing. Thank you in advance for your support.

Use Netflix to get your teen hooked on a book.

If your teen likes nothing more than spending hours binging the latest Netflix series, it’s possible that you could turn their Netflix habit into a reading habit.  Many of the most popular Netflix films and series are adaptations of children’s and teenage fiction.  In most cases, the books are much better than the films.   If there is a series your teenager or young adult is especially hooked on, it’s likely they’ll enjoy the book even more.  See below for some book to screen Netflix adaptations.
