BOOKBUZZ
I recently discovered the sad statistic that 1 in 5 children in England do not own any books of their own. For many of us, this seems hard to comprehend but, since the pandemic, it is a growing trend with parents telling the National Literacy Trust that the cost-of-living crisis has reduced their disposable income and books are just too expensive.
Libraries are a force for good in this area, both school and public, but there is nothing like having your own book to read and re-read, knowing that you’ve got its well-thumbed, well-loved pages to go back to for comfort and enjoyment. Possessing their own book gives children a sense of ownership over the story and increases their connections to the characters.
That is why the Library signs up for Bookbuzz every year. Each year 7 will get the opportunity to choose their own book to take home and keep. Orders are currently being placed in library lessons and we are looking forward to their arrival. Watch the Bookbuzz video via the link below:
We frequently get PE kits and coats handed in to Student Support. If they have names in, we will do our very best to find the owner. However, at least half of the items are unnamed and remain unclaimed.
We would strongly advise that students put names in most items.
The last date for ordering school photographs is Wednesday 12th October.
Details of how to order are on the proof envelope.
You can order by returning the envelope to school or by ordering online on www.picturemailorder.co.uk
As the autumnal weather is upon us, the PE department would like to remind the students that if they are doing an outdoor activity, they must dress appropriately.
The are allowed to wear skins, black or navy leggings under shorts or skorts or unbranded black or navy joggers.
Black or navy sweatshirts or fleeces are also allowed – however hoodies are not permitted.
Please put names in all items.
It has been a great week for sport at St Nicholas.
The teams have represented the school brilliantly and have lots of fun in the process.
Anya Meenan took part in the Winsford Swimming Club Championships which concluded over the weekend. Her biggest achievement was in the 50 m butterfly. She was swimming against girls in higher squads and still managed to come 5th and improve her time by 12.47% or 8.53 seconds.
After school revision sessions for Higher Tier Maths with Mr Barnes have started. They run on a Thursday until 4.15pm in M4.
