Message from our Chaplain Mairie

St Bernadette Relic tour
We were delighted to be invited to take part in the welcoming of St Bernadette to St Werburgh’s in Chester. We decided to take representatives from each of our Bernadette form groups.
When we first arrived, along with many other high school and primary schools we had the opportunity to learn about Bernadette and the reason for the tour. We learnt about what a Relic means to the Catholic faith – that is a way of connecting to a person who inspires us. The students were among the first to see inside the church and to spend time at the reliquary of St Bernadette. We then wrote some prayers and had a blessing of Lourdes water. When we returned to the schools marquee, we celebrated Mass via live stream. The Mass was celebrated by Bishop Mark and many other priests from our diocese.

Thank you to the Shrewsbury Youth Mission Team for organising the day. It will have a lasting effect on our students and make Bernadette a much more real influence on our school life.
Mass to celebrate the new school year
It was lovely to return to our usual celebration of the new school year by welcoming Fr Paul, from St Wilfrid’s, to say Mass for all of us. We were able to launch the new Mission Statement which reminds us of our daily desire to make sure that ‘Everyone Matters’. In his homily, Fr Paul reminded us of the generous love that God has for each of us. We also remembered Queen Elizabeth in our prayers during this time of mourning.
Thank you to all our readers, choir members and musicians and everyone who worked to make the day such a success.
Sporting success – Sophie Morrin

Congratulations to Sophie Morrin (second from the front) who represented Ireland U19 against Portugal U19 in Portugal Tuesday evening.
The game ended 0-0. Sophie put in a great performance controlling the game and breaking up the play in front of her own back four.

Sporting success – Rhys Morillo

Rhys Morillo competed in the Archery GB junior masters in Cheltenham on Saturday. This is an invitation only event by Archery GB for archers who have achieved Junior Master Bowmen status by shooting very high scores in record status events this summer season. He won U18 boys recurve and got the Gold medal.  He took it to a one arrow shoot off nearest to the centre of the target.

Rhys has been asked to join the Great Britain U18-U21 Squad. Amazing achievement, well done Rhys!
Sporting success – Ash Rose and Michael Rose – freestyle kayaking

Ash Rose and Michael Rose competed in the Dewerstone European open.
Ash Rose won first place in the European junior men’s intermediate freestyle category ?
Michael Rose came third in the European junior men’s novice freestyle category ?
Ash also came 3rd (Mikey 9th) in the boater x . This is a mix of white water, slalom,  and sheer brute force / strength.

Well done to both brothers!

Library and Literacy

The recommended wider reading titles for A Level Business have arrived. They’re bound to fly off the shelves so business studies students should get themselves to the library ASAP.

Why do wider reading? Evidence suggests that it will improve your grades and improve your chances of achieving a place on your desired post A-Level course, be it university or an apprenticeship. Check out these online articles for further tips on how and why to start wider reading.
