International Day of Peace on 21st September has been marked by the United Nations as a day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace, through observing 24 hours of non-violence and cease-fire. But the UN also states that achieving true peace entails much more than laying down arms. It requires the building of societies where all members feel that they can flourish. It involves creating a world in which people are treated equally, regardless of their race.Our Gospel Values for this term are ‘Tolerance and Peace’ and come from the teachings of Jesus known as the Beatitudes – “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God”. It is easy to look at the conflicts in the world and think that everything would be ok if they came to an end, but we also need to look at ourselves and see how we can be peacemakers in our own friendship groups, families and communities. Living in community is not easy, the start to the school year may see changes in relationships and dynamics, getting used to new routines and new faces. Approaching this time with an attitude of tolerance and desire for peace can make a difference. Let’s work together towards a time of peace in ways both great and small.

Well done to Year 7 boys who attended a football competition at Knutsford Academy on Tuesday night. They won two, drew three and lost two and were a credit to the school and themselves in all games.
Great Big Green Week is the UK’s biggest celebration of community action to tackle climate change and protect nature. It provides a great opportunity to talk to children about the importance of protecting our planet and taking action to help nature to thrive.
