Message from our Chaplain Mairie
This week the Church calendar has moved into its green regalia, showing that we have now entered Ordinary Time.  Ordinary Time, meaning ‘everyday’, and we listen to the Gospel and hear how Jesus’ ministry moves out and progresses, changing hearts and minds.
It is Jesus’ ministry that forms our Catholic Ethos. This term’s Gospel Value of Service and Sacrifice echoes this,  as we are encouraged to see our lives as ministry and our gifts and talents to be used for the good of others as well as ourselves. This year we will also be focusing on Catholic Social Teaching which informs and complements all the good works and expectations that we carry out in school. I will include elements of what we are learning in the newsletter.
English Department – Accelerated Reader
Now that Year 7 pupils have settled into life at St Nicholas’, the English Department will be raising expectations with Accelerated Reader this term; a new system of rewards is being introduced to incentivise regular reading and quizzing, and data will be published showing which form is reaching the top of the leader board.  The highest performing form can look forward to a form breakfast at the end of the half term.
Parents may notice a new button on the school website which links to Accelerated Reader Home Connect: a new way for them to see how their child is progressing with the programme and how many points they are earning.  Further details are in the Parent Pay letter sent out this week. Click here to see the letter.
We look forward to seeing how many points students can earn this term and, more importantly, how many fantastic new books they discover.

Physical Education
A reminder that students should come to PE lessons dressed for all weathers.
Due to exams taking place in the sports hall, all PE lessons take place outside next week.

Students must ensure they are appropriately dressed. They are allowed to wear skins, black or navy leggings under shorts or skorts or unbranded black or navy joggers. Plain hats and gloves can be worn, and black or navy sweatshirts or fleeces are also allowed – however hoodies are not permitted.

Please put names in all items.

Alumni

At St Nicholas we are very proud of our students, past and present.
We always enjoy hearing about their future jouneys and the success they achieve after studying with us.
Harriet Cosgrove has been in touch to tell us what she is up to now and about her experience at St Nicholas.
