Message from our Chaplain Mairie
This week the Church calendar has moved into its green regalia, showing that we have now entered Ordinary Time. Ordinary Time, meaning ‘everyday’, and we listen to the Gospel and hear how Jesus’ ministry moves out and progresses, changing hearts and minds. It is Jesus’ ministry that forms our Catholic Ethos. This term’s Gospel Value of Service and Sacrifice echoes this, as we are encouraged to see our lives as ministry and our gifts and talents to be used for the good of others as well as ourselves. This year we will also be focusing on Catholic Social Teaching which informs and complements all the good works and expectations that we carry out in school. I will include elements of what we are learning in the newsletter.
Now that Year 7 pupils have settled into life at St Nicholas’, the English Department will be raising expectations with Accelerated Reader this term; a new system of rewards is being introduced to incentivise regular reading and quizzing, and data will be published showing which form is reaching the top of the leader board. The highest performing form can look forward to a form breakfast at the end of the half term.
