Message from our Chaplain Mairie
My thanks and prayers for all your support over this first term especially your generosity for the Foodbank and local parish families. We have also sent cards to people supported by the local Snow Angels Charity and coats to people in need. It is wonderful to see the signs of a community growing and learning together and helping others in the community, both near and far.

Here is a reflection by Pope Francis from one of his Advent homilies –

The Lord comes; we know that over and above every favourable or adverse event, the Lord does not leave us on our own. he came 2,000 years ago and he will come again at the end of time, but he also comes today into my life and into yours. Yes, this life of ours, with all its problems, anxiety and uncertainty, is visited by the Lord. This is the source of our joy: the Lord has never tired and will never tire of us, he wants to come, he wants to visit us. Let us welcome him.

A Blessing for Christmas

The light of the Christmas star to you,
The warmth of home and hearth to you,
The cheer and good will of friends to you,
The hope of a childlike heart to you,
The joy of a thousand angels to you,
The love of the Son,
And God’s peace to you.
Amen

Christmas School Mass

On Wednesday, we celebrated our Advent Mass where we once again came together as a school to remember, sing and reflect.

Thank you to Fr Peter and Fr Paul for their words of wisdom, to Mrs McKenna and the talented musicians for their moving rendition of Silent Night and to the staff and site team for setting up and facilitating. Our students were amazing – thank you for listening and responding so well and to all our readers who performed loudly and clearly.

It was a wonderful end to a very busy term. We wish you all a blessed holiday.

Christmas Carol Concert

Thank you to everyone who came to our Christmas Concert last night.

It was wonderful to see so many students with their families and to be able to get together to welcome Christmas.

Thank you to all performers. The talent and commitment you all display is truly remarkable.

Also a huge thank you to the music department – Mrs Williams, Mr Rushworth, Mrs Smalley and Director of Music Mrs McKenna.

ARC update

In September the ARC commemorated the Queen’s life with a Royal Tea party.  The students made cakes, biscuits and sandwiches. Students and staff all enjoyed the event. Students then started to plan our annual Christmas dinner. This was overseen by Mrs Rose, Miss Catherall, Mrs Milborne and Miss Isherwood, and as you can see a great time was had by all. Diners were greeted at the door then shown to their table. On Thursday students invited all members of staff to join in a festive gathering where hot chocolate and mince pies were shared. A great end to the year.

Sports Mark – Platinum Award

Earlier this half term, two students, Imogen Ward and James Bacon (both Year 8) along with Mr Armstrong, attended the Sports Mark presentation held at Northwich Memorial Court. The award was presented by Cllr Graham Emmett and acknowledges the outstanding provision of school curricular and co-curricular sport for students at St Nicholas Catholic High School. We are proud to announce that as a school we are still in the top 1% of schools nationally to hold the Platinum award.

Accessing the Foodbank and new Food Distribution Centre, Greenbank

Whilst we hope that everyone is coping well with the present situation, this is a difficult time and we appreciate that there may be some families who are undergoing hardship because of changes in work or personal circumstances. The majority of Foodbank users will only access the Foodbank three times. but those three times will make a difference.

So that we may support our St Nicholas family, we have registered as a referral organisation for the Foodbank. If you would like to have this support, we are able to process an on-line referral and arrange an appointment for you to collect a five-day food package from an agreed centre.

Please do get in touch if we can be of help in this manner. Our chaplain is the point of contact –  Mairie Gelling at m.gelling@st-nicholas.cheshire.sch.uk .  As always, our conversation and any information that we need to pass on to the Foodbank will be treated with the utmost confidentiality. For alternative access, you can also contact the local Citizens Advice in the Community on 07894 238963

For local families, a new Food Distribution Centre has now opened at Christchurch in Greenbank. The church is located at the Greenbank station car park. Open 12.15 – 12.45 every Wednesday.
