Message from our Chaplain Mairie

Year 11 – Last day in school.

Year 11 celebrated their last day in school today.

They had a wonderful and emotional assembly, finishing off with a beautiful rendition of ‘Let it be’ with everyone standing up and singing along.

A lot of shirts were signed, tears were shed and memories remembered.

We wish you all the best for your remaining exams and for all your future endeavors!

Year 13 – Chemistry Olympiad

We are delighted to announce that eight of our Year 13 students here at St Nicholas Catholic High School took part in this year’s Chemistry Olympiad 2023. It is an annual event notorious for being the leading chemistry competition for secondary students across the British Isles. All eight students did extremely well and in particular a huge congratulations to Charlene Lam, Eva Grice, Jack Watson, James Williams and Tharanya Gunaseelan for receiving a Bronze award. Well done on behalf of the whole Science Department!

Attendance

Dear Parents and Carers 

At St Nicholas we strive for students to be in school 100% so learning and progress is maximised. It is evidenced that students who attend school achieve the best and have the most options at the end of Year 11. 

We operate an attendance policy which highlights students with ‘broken weeks*’ and therefore irregular attendance. There is a staged response and support from their Form Tutor, Year Leader and Learning Mentor at each stage. 

Amber stage results in a letter home to inform you that attendance is becoming a little concerning even if absences have been authorised.  

If broken weeks continue, then an escalation to red stage and Year Leader contact to go over the reasons for absence and to offer in school support. 

Following this, any students not improving their attendance will receive a blue stage letter and this could result in action such as local authority referral for fixed penalty notices or even prosecution. 

To summarise: 

*A broken week is when a student misses 1 or more AM or PM in a week.

Used Uniform

St Nicholas is now a drop off point for The Green Uniform Bank. If your child has outgrown their uniform please send it to school and we will pass it on to the Uniform Bank.

We accept the following CLEAN items:

blazers, shirts, skirts, trousers, ties, PE kits as well trainers,  school shoes and football boots.

School Ties available to purchase

If your child has lost or damaged their school tie you can now purchase a new one on ParentPay.

The cost will be £7.69.

If you child has ever borrowed a tie from Student Support we kindly ask that it is returned.,

Permanent position – 32.5 hours per week – 39 weeks per year.
8.20am until 3.15pm Monday to Friday, with an occasional meeting until 4.15pm on Wednesdays.
Grade 6 – £24,054 – £26,845 pro rata per annum

Year 13 Leaver’s Ball

The Year 13 Leaver’s Ball will take place on the 23rd June and will be held at the Crowne Plaza in Chester

Measles

There has been an increase in the number of cases of measles in England since January 2023, both in children and adults.

Measles is highly contagious and can lead to complications such as ear infections, pneumonia, and inflammation of the brain which require hospitalisation and on rare occasions can lead to long term disability or death. People whose immunity is compromised, pregnant women and unvaccinated children are at increased risk of severe disease.

Measles symptoms to be aware of include:

• high fever
• sore, red, watery eyes
• coughing
• aching and feeling generally unwell
• a blotchy red brown rash, which usually appears after the initial symptoms.

Anyone with symptoms that could be measles is advised to stay at home and phone their GP or NHS 111 for advice, rather than visiting the surgery or A&E. This is because measles spreads very quickly and easily and so it is important to try and prevent the illness spreading further.

The free MMR vaccine is a safe and effective way of protecting against measles, as well as mumps and rubella. It is never too late to have the MMR vaccine. Click here to read the letter from Cheshire West and Chester
