Message from our Chaplain Mairie
Welcome back to our new term and Happy Easter! We may have had forty days of Lent but we are rewarded with fifty days of Eastertide, so plenty to celebrate with the improving weather and longer days.
Confirmation
Many parishes are beginning their preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation. This Sacrament is offered to young people who are presently in Year 8 or above. Due to the lockdown and other circumstances, there is no higher age limit and many people prepare for the Sacrament as adults. If your child is interested please speak to your parish priest in the following parishes.
St John Vianney, St Mary’s Middlewich, St Vincent’s Knutsford.
If you belong to St Joseph’s Winsford, Fr Simon is away at the moment, so please email me, m.gelling@st-nicholas.cheshire.sch.uk and I will pass the message on (St Joseph’s prepare with St Mary’s in Middlewich).
Lent Charity
Thank you for all your support so far. We will allow fundraising for two more weeks to allow the forms to contribute to the charity.
Sporting Success – Katie Pollitt

Well done to Katie Pollitt, Year 11, who participated in the International Karate Championships in Malta during the Easter Holidays.

Katie got to the quarter finals in her individual category (age 15-17) and also competed for the over 18’s ladies team. Katie’s fight was the decisive one which she won to progress to the final where Katie and the team picked up a silver medal.

What an amazing achievement.

Sporting Success – Caelan Haydon

On Friday 14th April, Caelan competed in the Cascais Beach Cup 2023 for trampolining at the Colégio Maristas de Carcavelos in Portugal. Competing against people from all over Europe, Caelan completed 2 clean routines securing him 4th place and a place in the final. Later that evening, Caelan stepped it up a notch and secured the Bronze medal.

Such an impressive achievement! Well done Caelan!

Young Minds
For any parent or young person that may be struggling with their mental health.
This is the charity that the school supports during Mental Health Week with “Hello Yellow”

Parents, if your child has been denied support from CAMHS, or you are still waiting to be seen, we are here to support you. You can call our Parents Helpline on 0808 802 5544 from 9:30am – 4pm, Monday – Friday.

You’ll be connected to one of our trained advisors, who will listen to your concerns, and ask key questions to understand your situation as best as they can. They will tailor advice to your situation and suggest practical steps you can take and ways to support your child whilst waiting to access help from services. This could include contact details for relevant support services, practical tips you can implement at home or giving you advice around alternative options for support.

We know how lonely it can feel to be left without access to the professional support your family needs – but we are here for you.

Youth Mental Health First Aid Training for parents
Healthbox are now proud to deliver the Mental Health First Aid Accredited Youth Mental Health First Aid course.  This course is available to parents with school-aged children living in Cheshire West & Chester (only).
According to Mental Health First Aid England (2021) record levels of young people are struggling. Academic pressure, social media, bullying, poverty, lack of availability of professional mental health support – all have been named by various sources as contributing to this epidemic of poor mental health in our young people.
This course is suitable for anyone who works with, lives with or supports young people aged 8-18. The course will equip you with the skills and confidence to spot the signs of mental health issues in a young person, offer first aid and guide them towards the support they need and in order to help speed up the young person’s recovery and reduce the chances of a mental health issue getting worse.
