Message from Headteacher Mr C Burns

Dear Parents and Carers,

I hope that you and your families are well.

The last week has been full of activity once again with our students positively engaged in lessons and in the range of activities on offer for them outside of the classroom.

On Tuesday, we celebrated Mass as a whole school.  Our students were simply fantastic:  every individual sang beautifully, supported by our wonderful musicians.  I was particularly proud of the students, particularly Year 7, who read in front of the whole school – what a fabulous start!  I am looking forward to meeting with all the students who led aspects of the Mass on Tuesday to say thank you over tea and cake, as well as issue them with the popular Fast Track Lunch Queue Pass!

Thank you for continuing to work with us so positively and for sending your children into school dressed for learning and representing our school so well as they come to and from school.  Visitors always comment on the warm welcome they receive here, as well as how calm and purposeful the atmosphere is in school.

It is noticeable how caring and considerate our students are to one another and it is always great to hear all their ideas for helping others and hear their plans for improving not only their school, but the world around them.

I am looking forward to welcoming our potential new families to St. Nicholas next Wednesday for our Open Evening, starting at 6pm.
A Gospel Reflection from CAFOD:

“The last will be first, and the first, last”  (Matthew 20: 1-16)

Whether it is football, cricket, tennis, or any other game, it regularly happens that those who are expected to win, lose.
We often think we can guess what will happen, but can be surprised by what actually does.
Sometimes we even think we can guess what God thinks or says or does.
Sunday’s Gospel story can prepare us to be ready for a surprise, and its message that everyone is important, is very clear.
In our world today it seems that the gulf between the rich and the poor grows wider every day.
Too many people are not paid a living wage, and those whose lives are being destroyed by poverty and injustice, may not draw much comfort from the idea that one day all will be well.  They need to know and experience that we care for them today.
As Christians, our lives should be lived showing that we love God and our neighbour, and this needs to be apparent not only in what we say but more importantly in what we do.

A Prayer for you and your family:

May we follow the message of Jesus in showing practical care for anyone in need.
Amen

I wish you and your families an enjoyable week ahead.

Best wishes,

Craig Burns

Message from our Chaplain Mairie

Mass to celebrate the new school year

It was lovely to celebrate our return to the new school year by welcoming Fr James, from St Luke’s and Fr Simon, from St Joseph’s , to celebrate Mass for all of us. It was a lovely atmosphere to have us all together to share our prayers and hopes for the year ahead.

Thank you to all our readers, choir members and musicians and everyone who worked to make the day such a success.

Year 12 Induction Day – Catton Hall

Once again, our Year 12 students enjoyed a fun filled day at Catton Hall. This day really serves to mark the start of a new chapter in their academic journey. Old friendships were affirmed, and new ones forged, despite the adverse weather all the students came back to school beaming having had a great day out.

Open Evening

We would like to welcome prospective students and their families to our Open Evening which will take place on Wednesday 27th September 6-8pm

Sporting Success - Year 7 Netball

Year 7 had their first Netball match at Leftwich High School on Wednesday.
Our talented netballers played really well as a team and impressed all the PE staff!

Sporting Success - Year 7 Football

The Year 7 football team had their first competition on Tuesday evening held at Middlewich High School. They played some fantastic football, winning four and drawing one, ending the evening unbeaten. The team didn’t concede a single goal during the competition and scored 7, a brilliant effort!

Sporting Success - Caelan Haydon Trampolining

Last weekend Caelan Haydon in Year 8 got the Individual Youth Men’s Silver medal for the 2023 British Championships and the Silver medal in the Synchronised Youth Mens Trampolining category.
We are incredibly proud of him. He has worked really hard.

Message from PE

Labelling PE kit

All students have been set homework which has been to label their PE kit. This is very important as many students have identical bags and obviously all have the same kit.

It also really helps the office staff reunite bags with their owners if all items are labelled.

New club starting Friday boys Rugby Year 7&8 with Rugby Development Officer from Nortwich Rugby Club

Football Club

Well done to those students who also stayed for KS3 football. We had over 40 students stay once again! KS3 football is on every Tuesday, 3:15-4:15pm.
