Message from our Chaplain Mairie

Year 7 Visit to St Wilfrid’s
On Tuesday we were delighted to take our Year 7 cohort along to St Wilfrid’s parish church and centre for a RE day with a difference. This was an opportunity for the year group to spend time with their, year leader, Miss Forsey,  form tutors and RE staff, getting to know each other a little better and learning about parish community. Mrs McKenna, our musical director led everyone in some wonderful singing that helped prepare us for Mass, celebrated by Fr Paul and Fr Simon. Deacon David was on hand to answer all manner of questions about the church and parish life.
It was a lovely day and everyone behaved impeccably. We were very proud of our Year 7 students. Here are some of their thoughts –
“I made a new friend” (lots of these)
“I loved exploring the church and seeing the difference with my parish church”
“I enjoyed using our creativity”
“I enjoyed the art and making stained glass windows. The church was beautiful.”
“I learned a lot about the church and the singing was enjoyable.”

“I learned lots of new things even though I go to this church”
“I loved the grotto at the front of church.”
“I just enjoyed being with everyone.”

We are now looking forward to our Year 7 Welcome Mass on Wednesday.

ARC trip to Cadbury's World

ARC students and students from the year 10 CoPE course went to Cadbury World last week.
They visited the museum and learnt all about the history of chocolate and how our favourite chocolates were made. Students and staff even had a go at tempering and drawing in chocolate.
The highlight was the 4D cinema, where we saw popular characters  like Freddo, the Cadbury bunny, and Mr Parrot come to life.
Students and staff alike all enjoyed a stop at the shop before coming home.

Sporting Success - Year 7 Football

On Wednesday evening, the Year 7 football team took part in a football festival at Knutsford Academy. They played some excellent football, winning two games and drawing two games, ending the evening unbeaten. They also played all four games without conceding a goal, a brilliant achievement! Well done to all involved!

Cheshire Schools’ Book Award Launch

The launch of the Cheshire Schools’ Book Award will take place on Wednesday the 11th of October at Winsford Academy 4:30 – 6:30pm.  In addition to the announcement of the shortlist, Josh Silver, author of the riveting dystopian novel Happy Head will be there to meet pupils and talk about his books and writing. As if all that was reason enough to go, there will be snacks!

All students are welcome to attend this event. Parents and guardians should have received a email with a link to Forms to register their child’s attendance. We will meet outside the entrance to Winsford Academy before heading in. Unfortunately we are unable to offer transport at this time, but if you are able to drop off and pick up your children, this event is something they will get a lot of enjoyment from and, hopefully, be inspired to read more books. I need to let the Educational Library Service know how many to expect so please respond before 2pm Wednesday 4th October.

Advice from the NHS

Is my child too ill for school?

Coughs and colds
It’s fine to send your child to school with a minor cough or common cold. But if they have a fever, keep them off school until the fever goes.
Encourage your child to throw away any used tissues and to wash their hands regularly.

High temperature
If your child has a high temperature, keep them off school until it goes away.

COVID-19
If your child has mild symptoms, such as a runny nose, sore throat, or slight cough, and feels well enough, they can go to school.
Your child should try to stay at home and avoid contact with other people if they have symptoms of COVID-19 and they either: have a high temperature or do not feel well enough to go to school or do their normal activities

What to do if your child has tested positive
Your child is no longer required to do a COVID-19 rapid lateral flow test if they have symptoms. But if your child has tested positive for COVID-19, they should try to stay at home and avoid contact with other people for 3 days after the day they took the test.
