Message from our Chaplain Mairie

This Sunday we celebrated the last Sunday of the Church year, known as the Feast of Christ the King. It is a reminder that during our next few weeks, the child that we are celebrating at Christmas is indeed the Son of God. We live in the time of Jesus even now, and how we behave towards each other should echo that.

Celebrated on the Feast of Christ the King, National Youth Sunday is celebrated as an opportunity to recognise young people as a gift in the Church, enable the youth ministry and parish community to celebrate young people and affirm the contribution of young people in the Church and those who work with them.

We give thanks for all our young people in school and the local community and recognise their place in the world and the building of a society that is loving and just.

Sports News

The year 7 team travelled to Knutsford to compete in a friendly tournament against our local schools.

The 10 squad team played exceptionally well winning 3 out of the 4 matches. The team communicated well, supported and congratulated each other throughout the matches.

A brilliant effort and achievement! We are all very proud of you!

Year 9 Football

Unfortunately, the Year 9 team lost to St Gregory’s Catholic High School, Warrington 3-2 Wednesday night. After a brilliant first half, they battled well into the second half but agonisingly conceded a third goal with minutes to spare.

They were all excellent ambassadors for the school despite the result.

Library and Literacy

Empathy Month

November is empathy action month. The Empathy Lab have joined forces with some brilliant authors and illustrators to help us learn more about empathy and to inspire us to put it into action with some wonderful stories. The Empathy Lab’s website https://www.empathylab.uk/empathy-action-month, contains links to author videos, read aloud videos and suggestions of books to read which will help increase our capacity for empathy. We are asked to think about making an empathy resolution to put into action for the rest of the year.

All these books are available in the library. A Kind of Spark featured in last month’s “library cinema”, during which we watched the CBBC series based on the book. Fight Back was on the shortlist of the Cheshire Schools’ Book Award, read by St Nicholas Book Club. The Secret Sunshine Project was one of the Bookbuzz books available to the year 7s this year. We have plenty of more titles which encourage empathy towards those different to ourselves so please do not hesitate to ask Ms. Roberts for recommendations.

MMR and Measles

MMR and Measles
The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has reported an increase in measles across the country and is encouraging people to check that they and their children have had two doses of the MMR vaccine.
The free MMR vaccine is a safe and effective way of protecting against measles, as well as mumps and rubella.
It’s important for parents to take up the offer of MMR vaccination for their children when offered at 1year of age and as a pre-school booster at three years, four months of age. If children and young adults have missed these vaccinations in the past, it’s important to take up the vaccine now from GPs, particularly in light of the recent cases.
Check your child’s Red Book to see if they’ve received MMR vaccinations as scheduled or check with your GP surgery if you’re unsure. Most healthy adults will have developed some immunity to measles but can still receive two doses of the vaccine from their GP too.
Anyone with symptoms is also being advised to stay at home and phone their GP or NHS 111 for advice.
Measles symptoms to be aware of include:
• high fever
• sore, red, watery eyes
• coughing
• aching and feeling generally unwell
• a blotchy red brown rash, which usually appears after the initial symptoms.
