Message from our Chaplain Mairie

Feast of the Epiphany

These ‘wise’ travellers may well have been considered foolish to follow a star and a prophecy in hope. They were prepared to stake reputation; to leave family; to risk the dangers of travel; to risk the hospitality of strangers. To follow more than a star and for more than two weeks – they arrive at the house, not at the stable and Mary has a child, not a baby. The Magi knelt at the feet of a child, a toddler.

The passage, in Matthew’s gospel, has fired the imagination of artists, writers, poets as well as people of faith for two thousand years.  The blessing of the Magi has also become a blessing of the home in many countries, and we celebrated that in school last week.

During our Inset Day we read a poem by Howard Thurman. We are encouraged to take all that is good about the Christmas season into the new year.

When the song of the angels is stilled,

When the star in the sky is gone,

When the kings and princes are home,

When the shepherds are back with their flock,

The work of Christmas begins:

To find the lost,

To heal the broken,

To feed the hungry,

To release the prisoner,

To rebuild the nations,

To bring peace among others,

To make music in the heart.

Howard Thurman

Celebrating Success

We are always pleased to share our students’ successes and love to get an insight into the wonderful achievements that happen on a weekly basis.

If your child has an accomplishment they would like to share, please send a brief write up along with a photo to admin@st-nicholas.cheshire.sch.uk and we will publish it in the Newsletter.

Kindness in the community

Well done.

We are yet to discover who this mystery student is.
We are very proud when our students go above and beyond and this proves just how wonderful and thoughtful this student was.

Library and Literacy

The Read Harder Challenge

Looking for a New Year’s Resolution? How about taking part in Book Riot’s Read Harder Challenge?

This is the 10th year of Book Riot’s Read Harder challenge. The challenge consists of 24 tasks (2 for each month) to be completed within the year. The aim of the challenge is to encourage you to read outside of your comfort zone and to expand your experience as a reader to include genres, formats and perspectives that you wouldn’t naturally be drawn to.

You can approach the challenge in any way which suits you. Some books you read might satisfy multiple tasks. The important thing is that you encounter authors, stories, worlds and formats which you haven’t tried before.

Copies of the challenge will be made available in the library for anyone who wishes to take part (students, staff and parents are all welcome to join in) and we will share updates via the newsletter. If anyone would like recommendations for books to read to complete the tasks, please see Ms. Roberts in the library.
