Sports Presentation Evening
Sports Presentation Evening
The Physical Education department at St Nicholas Catholic High School wish to invite you to the Sports Presentation Evening on Monday 15th July 2023 (6pm-7:30pm). All students who have represented the school this academic year are invited to attend and will receive a certificate for their contributions to school sport. Furthermore, those who have represented the school in four or more sports will receive a badge for their efforts.
There will also be awards for achievement and effort in school sport along with a ‘High Performance’ presentation and live performances on the night. Students who have been nominated for an award will be notified in school next week and will receive a ticket for themselves and two family members.
The evening will finish with our guest speaker, captain of the England Learning Disability Cricket team; Chris Edwards.
Admission is free but is all ticket. Tickets can be reserved using the Form attached: https://forms.office.com/e/h5ztuyAr2k
Each student will receive a ticket but there will be a two ticket limit per family. In the event you wish to reserve more than two additional tickets, please contact a member of the Physical Education department.
Whilst the event will celebrate the participation and successes of those students who have represented the school this academic year, all students and their families are welcome to attend to be part of the celebration and listen to the guest speaker.
Furthermore, in preparation for the evening, the Physical Education department are kindly requesting any pictures and/or information of students competing outside of school in either club, district, regional, national or international level. The information received will be used to create a High Performance presentation that will be shared on the night.
Please can you send in any pictures and/or information of your child participating in sport outside of school to Mr Armstrong (m.armstrong@st-nicholas.cheshire.sch.uk) by Monday 1st July 2024.

Marc Williams – Stockport County
Marc Williams has been highlighted as a high performer at Stockport County’s academy. As a result, he has been selected for their ‘Young Hatters’ programme. The group is mixed between Under 13-16s and allows opportunities for further development and to play with older players.

As the weather gets hotter, please ensure your child has a water bottle with them in school.
To reduce plastic waste and to promote independence and personal responsibility, the office will no longer supply plastic cups.
Bottles are available to buy from the canteen. These can be kept and refilled throughout the day.

Library and Literacy
A lot of our students have already binged this series and it only came out last week! You may recognise Emma Myers, the actor playing Pippa, from Netflix’s Wednesday. This is a fantastic adaptation and a good gateway into the book series.
Geek Girl
Holly Smale’s best selling series Geek Girl, about an awkward teen who gets scouted by a top model agency, is now available to watch on Netflix. This is another series which will hopefully encourage teens to pick up the book series after they’ve got hooked on the Netflix series. According to reports from our students, the series deviates from the books in places, which might annoy the Geek Girl super fans, but will be great for those who are yet to discover the books as there’ll be more for them to uncover when they do.
My Lady Jane
The new Prime series My Lady Jane is a faithful adaptation of the hilarious novel of the same name. My Lady Jane tells the (not) entirely true story of Lady Jane Grey, because some people deserve a better ending. The series is a lot raunchier than the YA novel so watch caution. If you’re keen to avoid excruciating parent/child TV watching moments, there’s always the fast forward button.
Uglies
Well this is exciting. I’ve just found out that one of my favourite dystopian series of yore (2005 so older than any of our students), Uglies by Scott Westerfeld has been made into a film starring Joey King which is due to release on Netflix later this year. This was an incredibly popular series in the library back in the day and I’m looking forward to its resurgence. In fact, I’m going to make it my Book of the Week so everyone can read it before it’s released on Netflix (in case the film doesn’t do it justice).
Uglies and its sequals (Pretties, Extras and Specials) is set in a dystopian future where all inequalities and differences are neutralised at the age of 16 when you are sent to undergo a transformation which will make you Pretty. Once you are Pretty, you gain entrance to a high tech eutopia where your only job is to have a really good time.
Tally can’t wait to be Pretty and gain access to all the areas of society that being Pretty will afford her. Tally’s new friend Shay, however, has other ideas and would rather risk living on the fringes of society than go through an operation which will change her. When Shay disappears, Tally is given a harsh choice by the authorities. She can either find her friend Shay and hand her over, or never be given the chane to turn Pretty, leaving her an ugly outcast in a world full of beautiful people.
Perhaps being Pretty isn’t all that it seems. There’s something Ugly going on in Pretty World.

Free summer Holiday Activities and Food across Cheshire West and Chester
HAF summer is nearly here and we wanted to share with you some of the Holiday Activities and Food clubs available in your area. Coordinated by Edsential, Cheshire West’s HAF programme has a whole host of clubs that are completely free for children and young people in receipt of free school meals.
Our interactive map means it’s easier than ever for parents/carers to search for various activity clubs on offer in their local area. From various sports such as basketball, swimming and football camps, to creative arts and crafts, healthy eating cooking classes, nature bushcraft, campfires, and storytelling. This summer promises something for every taste and interest. For older children there will be additional activities such as hair, beauty, and wellness. And the best part? Free, healthy meals will be served throughout the programme, ensuring that children stay fuelled and ready for action.
