Student Voice May 2021

Student Voice
Student Voice is collected from a selection of Students every half term.

95% of students believe St. Nicholas Catholic High School has High Expectations for Behaviour.

Last Year 91% of students agreed that teachers asked them to recall and retrieve information from previous lessons. This half-term this rose to 94% as teachers address gaps in knowledge following the latest lockdown.

96% of students believe they receive a quality education at St. Nicholas Catholic High School.

100% of our students agree that we take our Covid-19 measures seriously.

We then asked Students what our greatest strengths are– here is what they had to say:

  • “Always there for students and make everyone feel safe and everyone cares about every pupil and their needs.”
  • I think it’s a great school; I’m new (I say that, only 4 months and then I’m Yr 8!) but it has been so great. Everyone is very smiley and welcoming and you can see that all the teachers and most of the students want everyone to have a great day. It feels safe and the lessons are on the whole, really engaging and interesting. It’s clear people are putting in a lot of effort to give us a great education.”
  • “Strong, proud Catholic message and outstanding behaviour.”
  • “The teachers are very supportive and push their students to their fulfil potential, the standards for behaviour are high and the Catholic ethos encourages students to live out the Gospel Values we focus on each term.”

We are also keen to hear about what we need to improve- here are some top tips of what we can do better:

  •  “For PSHE, maybe implement education on life skills”
  • “It would be great if the school could be more eco-friendly; for instance, having recycling bins in every classroom and offering vegan food options at break and lunch.”

Members of the Student Leadership Team- Jessica Taylor, Scarlett Stapleton, Poppy Billington and Danny Jones (Year 10 Prefects) have reviewed all the feedback given and are excited with the suggestions being put forward for the future.

Jessica says: ‘Next Year we would like to have sessions in Form Time based around different life skills such as Budgeting and Politics and education around Minority Groups’

Poppy and Scarlett are in talks with the school canteen to continue widening the school menu to include vegetarian and vegan options.

Some great suggestions! Watch this space!
