Message from our Chaplain Mairie
On Wednesday, we were delighted for members of our sixth form to be part of the Sixth Form Conference on Catholic Social Teaching. The conference was held at Chester Catholic High and included representatives from ten of our diocesan schools. It was presented by Ben Gilchrist, CEO of Caritas Shrewsbury, and some of our chaplains.
We considered how our faith invites us to be agents of change in the society we live in. Catholic Social Teaching gives us principles to live by that can lead to a better quality of life for everyone. This idea is known as working for the Common Good, which can sadly be very uncommon. Particularly in this time of economic concerns and world conflict, the responsibility to care for others has never been more important.
Our students shared the work we have already done within our schools, either as fundraising or outreach, and thought about what more we can do.
It was a unique opportunity to learn about each other and the variety of schools across the Diocese. Thanks to Chester High School for their hospitality and to everyone for their involvement and commitment to making a difference.
Mission Day

Mission Day on Thursday 26th January went well and all students were engaged and active from start to finish.

All years had elements of Catholic Social Teaching and finding situations where Gospel Values can be applied in our day to day life. We also had visitors and guest speakers; Year 10 were fully engaged by the army practising team work and problem solving, Year 10 and Year 11 both had excellent, fun and interactive presentations from www.speakandwinuk.co.uk about communication and resilience and Year 7 ‘Walked for Water’.

Our Sixth Form Students prepared for life after A Levels – a full Masterchef Competition, while others learned the basics of first aid.

Alumni

At St Nicholas we are very proud of our students, past and present.
We always enjoy hearing about their future journeys and the success they achieve after studying with us.

Ronan Eves is now a 5th year medical student.
“Small class sizes and familiarity of having been taught by many of the teachers previously in high school, meant that they were very willing to answer questions after class and offer extra help.”
Nasal Flu Vaccination in school

Following the cancellation last week, the NHS nurses will be in school on Monday 30th January to administer the flu vaccine.

Years 7, 8 and 9 will be offered the vaccine. Please give your consent by clicking on the link in the letter or here. The school code is CP111450

Request for old laptops

With the exam season approaching we have more students needing to use laptops and the exam department is struggling to meet demand.

If you have an old laptop you no longer need, it would be really helpful if you would consider donating it to school. All that is required is Notepad which we will install, so even older machines will work.
