Summer Holiday Support for Families
Families receiving Free School Meals (FSM) can apply for summer holiday food support through Cheshire West and Chester Council’s Crisis and Resilience Fund (CRF). Applications open on 30 June 2026 and close on 31 August 2026. Click here
The current FSM support arrangements will continue over the summer. From September 2026, CRF support will focus on households facing an unexpected financial crisis and applicants will need to explain their circumstances.
Also from September, all children in households receiving Universal Credit will qualify for FSM, extending eligibility to more families. Click here
The CRF can also help with emergency, housing and heating costs.

Summer Holiday Activity and Food (HAF) Programme
Bookings for the Summer HAF Programme open at 4pm on 25 June 2026. Families can browse activities and register interest now via EEQU: https://eequ.org/cheshirewestandchesterhaf
Free places are available for children eligible for benefits-related Free School Meals, subject to availability. Many providers also offer paid places so more children can take part.
This summer, 87 clubs across Cheshire West and Chester will provide activities, food and opportunities to learn new skills, make friends and try something new.

Laudato Si Day
Friday was an INSET Day for students and staff, and we hope everyone enjoyed a restful day at home.
The focus of the staff day was Laudato Si, providing an opportunity for us to come together and celebrate our Catholic ethos. Through a variety of activities, we strengthened our community, learned more about one another, and enhanced teamwork by celebrating all that is good about St Nicholas Catholic High School.
Laudato Si’, Pope Francis’ encyclical on caring for our common home, calls us to live responsibly, care for creation, and nurture positive relationships with one another and the world around us. The day encouraged us to reflect on these values while spending time together as a staff community.
Activities included a retreat at St Bede’s Catholic Church, maintaining the Prayer Garden, neurographic art, a drumming session, an art workshop, cooking together, a bike ride through Cheshire visiting all our Catholic Feeder Primary Schools, Yoga and a wellbeing walk.
It was a wonderful day that everyone thoroughly enjoyed and gained a great deal from. It reminded us of the brilliant people we work alongside every day and gave us the opportunity to get to know colleagues we might not ordinarily work with. The experience strengthened our sense of community and reinforced the shared values that make St Nicholas such a special place to work and learn.
Yorkshire Three Peaks
Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge
As part of our Laudato Si’ Day, 26 members of staff took on the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge, setting off at 5am with the aim of conquering the three highest peaks in Yorkshire while raising money for four wonderful charities: Pseudomyxoma Survivors, Parkinson’s UK, St Luke’s Cheshire Hospice and Bethlehem Care & Hospice Trust.
The challenge tested everyone’s determination and resilience. One walker even had a boot fall apart along the route! Despite the difficulties, spirits remained high as staff encouraged one another throughout the day.
The school minibus met participants at various checkpoints, providing water, smiles and much-needed encouragement along the way. After a long and rewarding day, everyone came together for a well-earned BBQ and celebration of their achievement.
The challenge was a fantastic demonstration of teamwork, community spirit and determination. We are incredibly proud of all those who took part and thank everyone who supported the team through their donations and encouragement.

English and Literacy Success
Sports Day
What a brilliant Sports Day we enjoyed last Tuesday! The weather was kind to us, creating the perfect backdrop for a fantastic day of competition, determination and fun.
Our students gave their all throughout the day, demonstrating outstanding effort, resilience and sportsmanship. It was wonderful to see records broken and personal bests achieved, alongside plenty of smiles and encouragement from students and staff alike.
Highlights included the ever-popular staff and Sixth Form tug of war, as well as a highly competitive staff 100m race!
A huge thank you to our PTFA for providing ice lollies, which were very much appreciated by everyone. We would also like to thank our Sixth Formers who helped facilitate the day as well as our PE team and site team for their hard work and organisation in making the day such a success.

Music at the Cheshire Show
Our talented musicians put on another fantastic performance at the Cheshire Show on Wednesday. Students from St Nicholas Catholic High School entertained visitors throughout the day and did themselves proud with their enthusiasm, confidence and musical skills.
We received lots of lovely feedback from members of the public, who really enjoyed the performances and were full of praise for our students.
It was a great opportunity to showcase the talent we have at St Nicholas and, just as importantly, it was a brilliant day out for everyone involved. Well done to all of our musicians for representing the school so well!

Cricket Success
Aimee Baldwin has participated in theRoyal Three Counties Show. She qualified and got her ticket on Friday on her own pony for The Horse of the year show in October at Birmingham NEC, in a large class of 28, she went on to win the class and take Champion.
She also qualified on 143 Show Pony which she rides, taking 1st and Reserve Champion.

10 hours per week, 43 weeks per year (Term-time plus 4 weeks during the school holidays).

If your child is leaving school or has outgrown their uniform or PE kit, please send it in to school where we will reuse it for students who need it or pass it on to the Green Uniform and Babybank. This can also be sent in after the exams have finished.
