A prayer to share

Loving God,
As we begin this new week , we remember when Mary,
carrying the hope of the world, journeyed to Elizabeth with hope and love.
May we, like Mary, be bearers of hope to one another.
May we, like Elizabeth, recognize the presence of God in those around us.
Help us to greet each other with kindness, encouragement, and faith.
May we be open to Your Spirit moving within us.
and  never hesitate to share Your love through simple acts of care.
Bless our teachers, staff, and families,
and guide us to be a community that lifts each other up,
just as Mary and Elizabeth did.
Amen.

A Message from our Chaplain, Mairie

This week we were privileged to welcome the Icon of the Visitation into school as part of its pilgrimage around the schools of our diocese.
Children and staff from St Wilfrid’s processed the Icon from their school up to St Nicholas where they were welcomed by Mr Burns, and some of our staff and Year 7 students. The Icon was then taken to the chapel for a service of welcome.
The image of the beautiful window of the Visitation can be found in our Cathedral in Shrewsbury. The window was created by an artist called Margaret Rope. This image, this Jubilee Icon was blessed by Bishop Mark at this year’s Chrism Mass, just before Easter. By the end of this year this Jubilee Icon will have visited all the schools in Shrewsbury Diocese.

On Thursday the Icon was present at our Whole School Mass to begin the school year and then students were invited to spend time with the Icon during their RE lessons.

On Monday, members of the St Nicholas student leadership will accompany myself and Mrs Freestone to St Bede’s in Weaverham so that it can continue its special journey.
This week has been a lovely way of blessing the start of the school year and introducing our new students to the faith life of the school.

Open Evening – Thursday 25th September

We look forward to welcoming future St Nicholas Students to experience our school for our Open Evening Thursday 25th September 6-8pm. No need to book.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Library and Literacy

Celebrity Book Clubs  

Celebrities have been using their influence to advertise various designer clothing/jewellery/perfume brands for decades, making us want products we never knew we needed. Over the last few years, however, some celebs have decided to use their star power for something far more enriching – encouraging us to read.
Reese Witherspoon, Dua Lipa, Florence Welch, Natalie Portman and Emma Roberts to name but a few have all set up successful online book clubs. Studies suggest that these book clubs have helped increase adults’ reading and exposure to different authors and genres.
What you might not know is that some of the books chosen are YA, aimed at teenagers and young adults, opening up another potential avenue to motivate your child to read.
Reese’s book club is particularly helpful in that she chooses a YA book each season. Other clubs require some trawling through the book lists to find the teen titles. However, you may find that your older teens are just as interested in the adult fiction.

Get creative and make new friends at this art club at Hartford Village Hall, starting Tuesday 23 September 2025. The club takes place from 4 – 5pm on Tuesdays. Try water colours, clay-modelling and much more. Let your ideas flow!
