A prayer to share

End of School Year Prayer for the School Community
Loving God,
As we reach the end of this school year,
we come before You with grateful hearts.
Thank You for the blessings You have poured out on our school community—
for the growth we’ve experienced, the knowledge we’ve gained,
and the relationships we’ve built.
We give thanks for our students, who have worked hard and grown in wisdom.
We thank You for our teachers and staff, who have guided with dedication and care.
We lift up our families, who have supported and encouraged us each day.
As we begin our summer break,
grant us rest and renewal.
Keep us safe, and help us to use this time to grow in faith, in joy,
and in love for You and one another.
Amen.

Message from our Chaplain Mairie

We have had such a lot to celebrate at the end of the school year, it was wonderful to have our Mission Day, when we addressed many social justice concerns in our community and the wider world by investigating, campaigning and writing to our MP’s to ask for action.  Before we ended the week with our Rewards Trips, we celebrated our Whole School Mass  to remind us of all that we have to be thankful for.
We greatly appreciate all the staff and students who step up to make our Masses real milestones in the life of the school. Thanks also to Fr Peter for celebrating with us and to our governors coming along to share the morning.
In the afternoon, Year 10 took part in the third Lucas Briscoe Memorial Rounders competition.  Amazingly, the sun shone on the year group, and the mid- break brought along a very welcome Ice Cream van for some cooling cones and lollies.
Thanks to everyone who has supported the school this year in many different ways. The St Nicholas family has a lot to be grateful for. Have a wonderful summer.
Accessing Local Support 
Whilst we hope that everyone is coping well, we know the summer holidays can be a difficult time.
We also appreciate that there may be some families who are undergoing hardship because of changes in work or personal circumstances.

Mission Day

St Nicholas High School is always buzzing but last week even more so as a community came together to put Catholic Social Teaching into practice during our Mission Day!
Shouts for world justice were heard from the field.
Mini whiteboards gave way to banners and placards.
Bug houses were built.
Seeds were planted.
A next generation on its way!
Year 7 students looked after God’s creation by making their own Mini Beast Houses and planting seeds. As part of their theme, they campaigned against advertisements making vaping attractive to young people.
Students in Year 8 considered the need for Foodbanks and looked at the reasons for Word Poverty. They linked their campaign with the Catholic Social Teachings of solidarity and option for the poor.
Year 9’s theme was “Be the change, become a peacemaker” and students researched on current peacemakers in our world. They put together their campaign and marched for a world without conflict where people especially children can live in peace and harmony.
Students in year 10 took on their challenge with real enthusiasm as they learnt more about the world’s poorest countries having been plunged into a new debt crisis. Banners reminded fellow students of standing together with people across the world. Shouts were heard clearly and loudly “What do we want? Cancel world debt! When do we want it? Now!”
Days like this remind us of what a wonderful Catholic community we are and how blessed we are with the students we teach. Education is not just measured in results but in the Catholic values our students hold when they walk out of our school and face the world ahead.
“Be the change! Bring hope….”

Sports presentation Evening

Thank you to everyone who attended our Sports Presentation Evening last week, celebrating the achievements of our talented students and athletes.
The event recognised outstanding dedication, teamwork, and sportsmanship across a wide range of sports, including football, netball, athletics, and more. Trophies and certificates were awarded to individuals and teams who have shown exceptional performance and commitment throughout the year.  It was a memorable evening that highlighted the spirit, resilience, and unity of our school community through sport. A wonderful event highlighting what a special school we are part of.

St Nicholas Short Story Competition

Thank you to all of the fantastic stories we received from our talented students for this year’s story writing competition. Sadly we could only pick one winner and one for each year. We were in awe of the talent on display and of the care and imagination students showed in their stories.

Young Chef Competition

Year 10 Students Cook Up Success in Young Chef Competition
Our talented Year 10 GCSE Food Preparation and Nutrition students recently put their culinary skills to the test in The Rotary Club’s Young Chef Competition. Tasked with creating a two-course healthy meal, the students competed head-to-head in a tense and exciting round judged on both creativity and technique.
We’re delighted to announce that Beatrix Price emerged as the winner, with Nancy Carrington taking a well-deserved runner-up spot. A huge congratulations to both students for their fantastic efforts!
Beatrix and Nancy will now go forward to represent our school in the next stage of the competition, where they’ll face off against students from other local schools in the coming months.
We wish them both the best of luck — and look forward to hearing how they get on!

Science Success – Silver Crest Award

A big congratulations to Rachel Aldridge who has worked towards the Silver Crest Award in Science.

A Silver CREST Award signifies that Rachel has successfully completed a challenging, in-depth, and self directed project in STEM which students 14yo and above can complete.  Her project was about Oral Rehydration Therapies.  It involved a minimum of 30 hours of project work, and Rachel developed her own project ideas, and worked with the Science staff to investigate a variety of methods to learn about ORS. The award is a testament to her skills in planning, research, analysis, and communication within a STEM context. She is the first person to gain a Silver CREST in this school.

 

Rowing

During this academic year, eight Year 8 students have taken part in the All Aboard Youth Programme at the Northwich Rowing Club. They are Amelia Cooper, Grace Shone, Nuo Yu Yu, Scarlett Furmage, Aiden Sullivan, Nadia Sullivan, Max Kubiak and Rhys Evans.
The students have taken part in 32 weeks of indoor and outdoor lessons, a national virtual competition and an annual rowing regatta in Warrington, competing against schools from all areas of the North West.  The girls achieved 8th, and the open boys/girls 13th overall. The open crew were awarded a regional silver medal, pipped at the finishing line by Winsford Academy.
The crews have received awards for attendance, including certificates during Sports Presentation Evening and individual medals: Amelia, Gold; Max, Silver; Nuo Yu, Bronze.
The whole initiative has been a really enjoyable experience for all students; as well as having plenty of fun on the water, they have developed valuable skills around teamwork, organisation, and working towards set goals.
The school would like to thank our former Site Manager, Mr Humphries, who has supported the students each week, taking them to and from the rowing club and ensuring all of their achievements are recognised. His support has been invaluable.

 

Sporting Success – Karate World Cup Champion

Amazing achievement by former student Katie Pollitt who has competed in the Karate World Championships in Sweden for Team GB this month. She has won 2 Gold Medals and is DOUBLE WORLD CHAMPION!!

Our Year 10 student, Maisie, recently competed at the Dance World Cup in Burgos, Spain.  Maisie was one of 30 dancers in Team England and despite competing against 27 country teams in her category, Maisie and her crew came 8th in the world!  Well done Maisie, we are extremely proud of you!’
