A prayer to share

Week of Prayer for Prisoners, families and those who work with those affected.

“I was in prison and you visited me.” Matthew 25

Our Gospel values for this term are Truth and Justice.
Christians believe that when justice involves people going to prison, then that should be an experience that rehabilitates people.
Prisoners ‘pay’ for what they have done wrong and are supported in beginning again.
Christians also believe that the families of prisoners should not be discriminated again and should be helped.
This ministry is perhaps not one you have heard about, but it is an important way to put our faith into action.

Come Lord, break into this world of ours and reorder our understanding; where the hurt and damaged find healing, the oppressed are granted justice, and the stranger is welcomed. 

Stir up within us your compassion. Give us a new heart, a new vision of who we are as your people and how you call us to live with one another. 

Hear our prayers for change; that your Kingdom may come here in our homes, our places of work, our prisons and our communities.

Message from our Chaplain Mairie

This week Year 7 students have been coming into the chapel to learn about the role of Mary and the Rosary prayer. The rosary is often used as a prayer for peace and our prayers are added to all those who pray for peace in places of conflict. We pray for the work of peacekeepers and emergency aid workers who support those in crisis. In form, we continue to collect ‘change’ for the CAFOD harvest appeal – seeking to make big changes in the world.

As part of the school leadership planning, we have a team who will be helping us to campaign to Parliament on matters of social justice. We will be supporting the Church Action on Poverty campaign – we will let you know how we get on!

Student Leadership Project – Love in a Box

Our student leaders have taken on a number of targets this year and one is charity. They, after suggestions from other students, would like to invite students to take part in a Christmas Shoebox appeal. We are aiming to send items through Teams4U who will be travelling to Eastern Europe. We appreciate that there is a very small window of opportunity before the transport leaves, But if you are able to put together a shoebox – it would be a very welcome gift for those who have very little at this time.

We include the information about what to pack here. The closing date will be Friday 8^th November, but this does allow for the half-term to gather the items, perhaps unwanted gifts or nearly new items would be welcome.

St Nicholas Music Festival

We had two amazing evenings celebrating all things musical this week.

Our talented partner primaries joined us with brilliant performances, and our own ensembles and choir showed off what they have been working on. It was great to see so many parents and families in attendance.

Thank you to Director of Music, Mrs McKenna as well as the hardworking music team for all their efforts in making sure these evenings go to plan.

Reading Cloud Autumn Book Recs

Reading Cloud have released their Autumn book recs. If you’re looking for ideas for your teen, you can’t go far wrong with these. I’ve included some primary books for younger siblings or students not quite ready to move on to secondary books. Almost all are available in the Library.

Sporting News – Football

Last week saw the U14 girls play in the Cheshire Cup against Holmes Chapel.

A rocky start from St Nicholas allowed the opposition to gain a goal in the first few minutes. Our nerves never seemed to settle in the first half resulting in a 0-5 goal difference to Holmes Chapel.

In the second half we seemed to settle and managed to get the ball up into the opposition half, some chances were taken but we were unable to convert any shots into goals. The final score line 0-6 to Homes Chapel. However the score line does not reflect the determination and fighting spirit of all the team.

Well done to the whole team.

PTFA Newsletter

The PTFA will be running their Christmas raffle as usual from 11th November at £1 per ticket on parent pay. If anyone has any prizes, they could kindly donate please contact school – thank you very much.
