Welcome back

A warm welcome back to the summer Pentecost Term and thank you for supporting such a positive start to the new term together. The standard of school uniform on return has been excellent and it is wonderful to see students choosing to engage with extra curricular activities after school once again. We offer Year 11 and Year 13 students every good wish and blessing as they begin their school assessments which will be used to inform their GCSE and A Level grades this year. We also look forward to welcoming Year 6 to the St Nicholas community over the coming weeks.

Over the Easter holidays, the Government has asked schools to continue to ensure face coverings are worn in communal areas and classrooms until the 17th May at the earliest. As I have stated in previous communications, should you wish for your child to be exempt from wearing a face covering please contact their Year Leader in the first instance.

Thank you for your continued support for home testing and for informing school of your LFD results via our website – we are currently awaiting confirmation from the Department for Education on the delivery of additional home testing kits to St Nicholas, and we will update you when this information is received.

Message from Mairie
Welcome back to our new Pentecost Term, and Happy Easter!
Following on from the forty days of Lent, we have fifty days of Easter.
During this time Jesus helps his disciples understand how they are to go on without his physical presence once he returns to the Father.
The Lord’s Prayer, the Our Father, reminds us that we are building God’s Kingdom on Earth. This includes how we care for the earth. Earth Day took place on 22nd April, and is a annual day of support for everything being done to protect our planet and slow down climate change. CAFOD, the Catholic Agency for Overseas Development, held a live assembly for schools to show how we can come together to look after and care for the world which is crying out for our help, and tackle the climate crisis.
The assemblies (one for primary and secondary) can be watched again here
Gospel Values

As part of the Pastoral Curriculum at St. Nicholas Catholic High School we focus on a pair of Gospel Values each term. During this Pentecost Term our Gospel Values are Humility and Gentleness, in all our school activities we will learn how we can show gentleness to one another as a community and be humble in our words, thoughts and deeds. We will learn about the Beatitudes and Jesus’ teachings and try and display these values daily, in all we do. You can learn more about our focus this term by turning to Page 121 in the Student Planner.

Trunki-tastic
On Monday 19th April, one of our Year 10 Business Studies classes were lucky enough to be given the opportunity to interview Rob Law MBE the founder and owner of Trunki. Students took the opportunity to ask Rob questions on a variety of topics such as business ownership, pricing, promotion and the effects of the pandemic on his company. The session was recorded so it can be shared with other Business Studies groups. We can’t wait to engage with more entrepreneurs over the coming months and will keep you posted as to who we manage to meet next!
Canteen Update
From Monday 26th April we will be offering a sandwich meal deal.
Selection of a sandwich, pack of walkers Baked crisps & a bottle of still water. The crisps can be replaced by a piece of fruit. This will be £2.50

Boys’ Football matches against Hartford

During the week both Year 7 and Year 8 boys have played friendly matches against Hartford High School.

Year 7 went with 35 boys who all played to the very best of their ability. We played in mixed teams against a strong Hartford side – we lost one match and won three. Well done!

Thursday the Year 8 footballers went across and played some great matches. They won two and drew two.

It was fantastic to see all the players back on the pitch being able to play competitive matches again.
