A prayer to share

Loving God,
As we reach this October half-term,
we pause to thank You for the journey so far—
for the lessons learned, the friendships formed,
and the strength You’ve given us each day.
We pray for rest and renewal in the days ahead.
Help us to use this break wisely—
to recharge our minds, refresh our spirits,
and reconnect with family, friends, and with You.
For all of us, fill our hearts with gratitude for the blessings we often overlook.
When we return, Lord,
help us to come back ready to learn,
to grow in wisdom and kindness,
and to share Your light in all we do.
Amen.

A Message from our Chaplain, Mairie

Year 7 Mass – 

It was lovely to celebrate our Year 7 Family Mass last Monday. Thank you to everyone who was able to come and share in the evening. Not least the students themselves – there were some lovely readers in Year 7 and the art-work on their altar cloth is amazing. A special thanks to sixth formers, Belle and Emily, who gave up their lunches and breaks to create the Lectern cover  a beautiful work of art that reflects the light that we see in all our students.

So many people are involved in our school celebrations, and I would like to take the opportunity to mention them here. Many thanks to Mrs McKenna and all the musicians and choir who volunteered to be at the Mass, we are very lucky to have such gifted and willing young people.
Thanks to our IT and site staff and their help with setting up the hall, and all the form tutors, RE staff, TA’s and other staff who have supported the students on their RE day. Also to all the staff who stayed to join in the celebration.
Thanks to Mrs Sandbach for the use of the kitchen and the PTFA for providing refreshment after the Mass and providing a welcome to the Year 7 families.

 

Shoebox Appeal – Love in a Box 

This year, our school is proud to be supporting the Teams4U Shoebox Appeal, which helps bring joy to children around the world who may not otherwise receive a gift this Christmas.
We would love your support with this wonderful initiative. If you are able to, please consider sending in a filled shoebox or even a small item from the following list:
Toothbrush and toothpaste
Hair accessories or brush
Soap and face cloth
Stationery and paper
Gloves
Hat and scarf
New socks or underwear
A soft toy, game, or puzzle
A small musical instrument
Toy vehicle
Small ball
Sweets (with a use-by date from June 2026 onwards)
Shoe Box Appeal
Empty shoeboxes would also be greatly appreciated, as these can be decorated and filled by our students in school. You can also fill a shoebox with items that might be useful around a home.
We understand that times are challenging for many families, so please only contribute if you feel able to do so, as every small donation helps and will make a difference to a child’s Christmas.
The deadline for receiving items in school is Monday 10th November, so if items could be sent in before this date, that would be greatly appreciated. Our student ambassadors have made this video to promote the project.
Winter clothing 
I’m sure, now that the days are getting colder, that many people are starting to look through their wardrobes for winter wear. If you have anything outgrown or not needed, but still in good condition, we can collect in school and donate on to the Green Uniform and Baby Bank in Winsford.  We can also recommend the Green Uniform and Baby Bank if you are looking for winter clothing or a uniform boost.

October Half Term: The Perfect Time to Cosy Up with a Book
As the leaves turn amber and the days grow shorter, October half term arrives like a well-earned exhale—a brief pause in the midst of a busy season. For students and families alike, it offers a much-needed break from the relentless pace of school routines. While some may take to the roads or skies for autumn getaways, there’s something equally magical about staying home, curling up with a good book, and letting your imagination wander.
There’s a special kind of comfort in reading during autumn. The cooler air invites us indoors, where wool blankets, steaming mugs of tea or hot chocolate, and flickering candlelight set the perfect stage for stories to unfold. Whether it’s a thrilling mystery, a heartwarming classic, or an eerie tale to match the Halloween spirit, reading in October has a distinct charm.
Creating the Perfect Reading Spot
Transforming a corner of your home into a reading nook doesn’t take much. A soft chair, a chunky blanket, a warm drink, and a good light source can turn any space into a haven. Add a stack of books and maybe a pet or two for company, and you’re all set for an afternoon of bliss.

Sporting Success

Football – Cheshire Cup

Last week the U13’s had a great game, winning 9-0.  The first goal was scored at 32seconds into the game.
The girls carried on strong throughout the match and goals were scored by:

Football – Year 7 tournament

Year 7s went up to Hartford High School last week for a friendly tournament – all students played exceptionally well and represented the school to the highest standard.

Football – Cheshire Cup

Last week Year 10 boys secured a 1-0-win vs Malbank in the first round of the Cheshire Cup. Everyone played fantastically and fully deserved the win. 

Cross-Country

We had the Mid-Cheshire Cross-Country last Wednesday which involved all the Secondary schools in the area (Weaverham, Hartford, Grange, Cransley, Leftwich, Winsford, Rudheath and Middlewich) and all the St Nicholas runners did fantastic!
Top 20 have been selected to represent the area in January.

Amazing Scouts

We had a wonderful email from the Scout Leader with 1st Hartford Scouts.

Last weekend, six boys – including Matthew Lewis and Daniel Lewis from St Nicholas, completed the full 34-mile (55km) Sandstone Trail in just two days—11 hours on Saturday and 9 on Sunday. Many said they were too young, but they proved otherwise through sheer determination. Earlier in June, a larger group of older Scouts attempted the same challenge but couldn’t finish. When offered another chance, only these six stepped up—and succeeded. They stayed cheerful, supported one another, and set the pace for the leaders. Their teamwork, resilience, and maturity were truly inspiring. It was an incredible achievement, and they should be immensely proud of themselves. I certainly am.
