Message from our Chaplain Mairie

We have had such a lot to celebrate at the end of the school year, it was wonderful to have our Whole School Mass this week  to remind us of all that we have to be thankful for. We greatly appreciate all the staff and students who step up to make our Masses real milestones in the life of the school. Thanks also to Fr Paul for celebrating with us and to our governors coming along to share the morning.

In the afternoon, Year 10 took part in the third Lucas Briscoe Memorial Rounders competition.  Amazingly, the sun shone on the year group, and the mid- break brought along a very welcome Ice Cream van for some cooling cones and lollies.

Thanks to everyone who has supported the school this year in many different ways. The St Nicholas family has a lot to be grateful for. Have a wonderful summer.

Rewards Trips

We have thoroughly enjoyed being able to reward our students this week with 4 fantastic rewards trips.

Year 10 enjoyed a day out at Alton Towers on Friday, getting on lots of rides and using their fast tracks to skip some of the queues – ‘It was great that we stayed at the park until 6pm as the last 2 hours was really quiet so we got on loads of rides.’

Year 9 went to Blackpool Pleasure Beach on Monday with many braving the ‘Big One’
Students said they had a ‘Fantastic day’
‘A Great experience where they could build more friendships’
‘The best rides with some really great roller coasters – I want to go back!!’

Year 8 went to Cheshire Oaks where they enjoyed watching either Inside out 2 or Dispicible me 4 in their own private cinema room with ‘Amazing reclining seats’, followed by bowling and pizza. Students said it was ‘fun’ and ‘exciting’ – they really enjoyed the Bowling and being able to go in the Arcade after – ‘Great day had by all’.

Finally Year 7 had a great day out at Chester Zoo – many getting to see the snow Leopard for the first time! They had a lovely day with their friends and got to be more independent, planning their own routes around the zoo and developing time management skills.

Year 7 Rewards Trip

A sunny adventure to end the year!

The Year 7 pupils really enjoyed their Reward trip to Chester Zoo!! The sun shined for us and the pupils loved seeing a wide variety of animals! From bats to cheetahs, lemurs to dragons the pupils loved exploring the zoo animals! One of the favourites with the pupils was the snow leopards!!

Lucas Briscoe Memorial Competition

Rounders Competition
Wednesday afternoon saw our year 10 students enjoy a rounders tournament in the sunshine in memory of Lucas Briscoe. We shared a minute’s silence to remember him and his family and friends.

Dear Parents & Carers,

I wish to thank you all very much for your support over the last school year, especially to everyone who has bought summer raffle tickets.

We have helped many different departments with resources and we were pleased to be able to provide a donation towards the 6th Form Gym – very exciting.
We have also bought i-pads for various departments, sewing machines for the art department and given a donation for the breathing space room. We also as always provided ice lollies on Sports Day. We simply can’t do all this without the help & support of our parents and careers and of course our PTFA members. Thank you again to you all and to the PTFA members for their time, help & support.

We will be looking for someone to take on the role of Secretary in the new school year. If you are interested in this role or becoming a PTFA member please contact school or myself.

Some of or St Nicholas students & staff are involved in some ogre-size fun this summer with Salt & Pepper Youth Company’s production of ‘Shrek JR’. Why not join Shrek, Donkey, Princess Fiona and many favourite fairytale creatures in this hilarious and heartwarming musical adventure.

‘Shrek JR’ is based on the Oscar-winning DreamWorks Animation film and fantastic Broadway musical, featuring the famous Neil Diamond song ‘I’m a Believer’. It’s a ‘Big Bright Beautiful World’ as everyone’s favourite ogre leads a cast of fairytale misfits on an adventure to rescue a princess and find true acceptance. Part romance and part twisted fairytale; ‘Shrek JR’ is a toe tapping, feel-good fun show with a powerful message for the whole family.

Amazing homework

Year 7 and 8 have put fantastic effort into their end of term Art homework!
Year 7 have written and illustrated their own short story, inspired by the Tom Gates books. Whilst year 8 have crafted sculptures made from recycled cardboard.

Request for squeezy bottles
Hopefully summer is just around the corner, and we are hoping for BBQ session to start!!!
The Art department are in need of Tomato Ketchup/Mayo squeezy bottles, ideally the larger size. If you could collect them over the summer holidays, we would really appreciate as we use these to decant paint into.

Northwich Community Support Zero Waste initiative.

Northwich Community Support Zero Waste initiative run food hubs on a Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday at different locations around the town.

This is open to anyone.

Attendees take 2 shopping bags and pay £1 on entry and then have access to fill their bags with fruit, vegetables, bread, dairy products etc. There is also a heavily discounted pantry section to allow people to purchase meat, fish, snack food and a large range of other items for a small donation.

All the food is supplied from the main supermarkets around Northwich and then redistributed to the community in this way to prevent viable and healthy food ending up in landfill due to restrictive “end of life” dates that the supermarkets have to work to.

It can be a hugely valuable service especially in the summer holiday period when children are eating a lot more at home, they always have bread, sandwich meats, eggs, snacks and crisps for families to access and provide low cost lunches for their families.
