A prayer to share

A Prayer for Lent
Loving God,
As we walk through this second week of Lent,
open our hearts to Your love and guidance.
Help us to grow in faith, kindness, and patience.
We pray for all our students who are preparing for their exams.
May they seek You in moments of stress and to trust in Your plan for our future.
May we reflect Your mercy in our words and actions,
sharing hope and compassion with those around us.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.

Message from our Chaplain Mairie

Year 3 visit
On Tuesday, thirty-nine Year 3 children from St Vincent’s and surrounding schools, came to visit St Nicholas as part of their sacramental programme for First Forgiveness. We did some really big thinking about who we are and how much God loves us – no matter what! We spent some time in the chapel and RE classrooms, as well as a pizza and chips lunch in the canteen and a chance to catch up with some Year 7 buddies. Our final reflection included the Stations of the Cross and the people who supported Jesus in difficult times. They were an absolute delight to have in school and we thank Miss Hyland and her team for bringing them along for the day.
Lent in the Chapel
We have begun our Lent Services in the Chapel and thanks to the skills of Mr Grogan from our DT department, we have a beautiful Holy Doorway to begin our Lenten Journey of Hope. As Pope Francis has said Lent is an opportunity to be  –
“Journeying together … consolidating the unity grounded in our common dignity as children of God (cf.Gal3:26-28). It means walking side-by-side, without shoving or stepping on others, without envy or hypocrisy, without letting anyone be left behind or excluded. Let us all walk in the same direction, tending towards the same goal, attentive to one another in love and patience.”

Ski Trip 2025

During half term St Nicholas went to Flachau in Austria.

We have had an amazing time exploring the slopes, developing our skills and tasting some local delicacies!
It was brilliant to follow the progress made by everyone, from complete novices to the more experienced skiers.

We had great fun both on and off the slopes with night time activities including bowling, pizza and fancy dress.

We are already looking forward to next year.

Sporting Success – Cheshire Champions

A massive cheer and well done to our Year 7 footballers who are now U12 Cheshire Champions 🏆
The girls played at Moss Farm yesterday and were unbeaten against Cardinal Newman, Great Sankey, Congleton, Kings and Newton.
Some extremely talented players who make a very strong team!
Congratulations!!

Sporting Success – Sixth Form Semi Final win

Our U18 Football Squad were brilliant last week when they beat Bishop’s Bluecoat 3-2 in the Semi Finals of the Cheshire Cup.
They will now be representing the school in U18 Final for the first time in the school’s history.
Goals from Alfie Argyros, Charlie Bird and Devon Renshaw and some brilliant saves from Ben Leigh secured our path to the Final. Is was great to see so many of the Sixth Form come down to support the boys too.

Year 9 TDIP/Men immunisation.

Year 9 will have their TDIP/Men immunisation on Tuesday 25th March 2025.
Please submit consent here – https://www.cwpstartingwellimms.co.uk/Forms/DTP   to ensure that your child receives the vaccination. It is important that you complete a consent form online before the deadline of 23rd March 2025.

Swimathon Charity

On Saturday 22nd March some of St Nicholas’s amazing swimmers will be making a splash for charity. They will take part in the annual Rotary Swimathon at Brio in Northwich.

Ed Smalley, Charlotte Ainscough, Zach Cocksedge, Ed Ma, Jefferson Jones and Jessica Barnett will be clocking up as many length as they can to raise money for The Christie along with the charities chosen by the Rotary Club. Best of luck to the whole team!

Exciting News: The Yoto Carnegie Shortlist is Here!
Book lovers, get ready—this year’s Yoto Carnegie Medal shortlist has been announced, and we can’t wait to dive in. These prestigious awards celebrate outstanding books for young people, showcasing gripping stories, unforgettable characters, and powerful themes.
At our Friday lunchtime book club, we’ll be shadowing the award, reading and discussing the shortlisted books together. This is a fantastic opportunity for students to explore some of the best new literature for children and teens and share their thoughts with fellow readers. Whether you love fantasy, adventure, or real-life drama, there’s something on the list for everyone.
Even better, all the shortlisted books are available on Sora, our ebook platform, so students and staff can easily access them anytime, anywhere. No need to worry about waiting for a library copy—just log in and start reading.
Everyone is invited to join us this Friday to be part of the discussion. Who knows? Your favorite book might just win the Carnegie Medal.

Prom Sale Event

The Green Uniform and Baby Bank Ltd.  We are holding a Pre Loved/New prom wear sale event for the 3rd year running on Saturday 5th April at 11am -2pm at Winsford Academy.
We offer a wide range of dresses, suits, shirts, ties, shoes and costume jewellery for school leavers. We are open to everybody. All dresses and suits are £20 each. The shirts/ties/shoes etc are a couple pounds each extra if needed.
We run this event not only to help families save money but to promote the rewearing of ‘single use fashion’, hoping that we can reduce the number of purchases of new wear once fashion items.
We have a Facebook event page where there are photos of the previous events and an idea of some of the dresses/suits we have available this year. This will be continuously updated as we head to the date of the event.
