Sporting Success – Hockey
Alfie Stackhouse 11T recently appeared in the Northwich Guardian after playing alongside both his dad and grandad in a hockey match for Winnington Park men’s 2nd team back in February.
Such a lovely thing to do as well as a memory to treasure. Well done to all of Team Stackhouse.

French and Art Trip to Paris February 2025
The MFL and Art departments ran their fifth joint trip to Paris at half-term. 20 students in Years 11 and 13 travelled by Eurostar with three members of staff and stayed in the centre of Paris near to the Catacombs.
We visited world-famous art collections at the Musée d’Orsay and the Modern Art Museum of Paris. Art students particularly enjoyed the Monet gallery where they saw some of their favourite paintings up close for the first time.
On our first night we went to the top of the Montparnasse Tower from where we saw Paris by night, including the famous Eiffel Tower ‘sparkle’. Students enjoyed a visit to the summit of the Eiffel Tower itself and free time on the Champs-Élysées, where French students got to put their language skills into practice. We also took an atmospheric tour deep under the streets of Paris to the Catacombes.
On Sunday morning, we attended Mass at the recently restored Notre Dame cathedral, the last time we were able to attend being in February 2019, just weeks before the terrible fire.
Our evenings were spent journalling in the hostel and on the last night, we all enjoyed a river cruise along the Seine on one of the iconic Bateaux-Mouches boats.
The students were a credit to the school and their families, and it was a pleasure to introduce them to the art and culture of Paris.

World Book Day at St Nicholas
St Nicholas Dollars – Rewards Shop
The St Nicholas Dollars Reward Shop is busier than ever, with students queuing out the door each Friday lunch time to trade their hard-earned dollars into treats and prizes.
The shop has a variety of items to choose from, which includes stationary, sweets and chocolates, catholic jewellery, seasonal items e.g. Easter Eggs, cinema trips, queue jump passes and much more, with new items constantly being added based on students’ recommendations.
Students also have the opportunity to donate their dollars to vote for a charity they wish to support. At the end of each term the charity with the most votes will receive a £50 donation from the school. Currently students can vote for Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, Young Minds and Christies. Last term the students voted to donate £50 to ChAPS and it was lovely to see how many students donated their dollars to this cause.
We look forward to seeing the Reward Shop continue to grow and allowing students to earn dollars through following our school values and having ownership over how they are rewarded.
Swimathon Charity
On Saturday 22nd March some of St Nicholas’s amazing swimmers will be making a splash for charity. They will take part in the annual Rotary Swimathon at Brio in Northwich.
Ed Smalley, Charlotte Ainscough, Zach Cocksedge, Ed Ma, Jefferson Jones and Jessica Barnett will be clocking up as many length as they can to raise money for The Christie along with the charities chosen by the Rotary Club. Best of luck to the whole team!

Library and Literacy
One of the highlights of our World Book Day celebrations was the National Book Token Design Competition. Budding artists and book lovers had the opportunity to design their very own book tokens, with the chance to see their artwork brought to life. I was amazed by the creativity and effort put into each design, and can’t wait to see how our entries fare in the national competition!
Authorfy Videos
To inspire our readers, we shared engaging Authorfy videos featuring renowned authors discussing their books, writing processes, and top reading tips. These videos provided a fantastic insight into the world of storytelling and left students feeling motivated to dive into new books and even try writing their own stories.
Reading Doodle Sheets
Our Reading Doodle Sheets were also a hit! These fun, interactive sheets allowed readers to get creative while reflecting on their favorite books, characters, and story ideas. It was wonderful to see so many artistic and imaginative responses.
World Book Day Treasure Hunt
The most exciting part of the week was undoubtedly the World Book Day Character Treasure Hunt! Students from years 7 to 11 stalked staff members across the school to spot which book character they were dressed as and grill them about their character’s book and author. It was a joy to see students’ faces light up as they unexpectedly came across their favourite book characters on the corridors. It made suffocating under the Lorax’s mustache all day worth it!
