Year 7 Chapel Visit
It was a real pleasure to have Year 7 students in the chapel over the past two weeks in their form groups. It was an opportunity to reflect on the year that has passed and to experience the chapel as the oasis of peace that it often offers to students and staff during the school year. It’s been lovely to spend time with the Year 7 students and to talk about our Catholic Ethos and how our faith traditions are a great help in difficult times. We were delighted to offer each of them a New Testament, courtesy of Good News for Everyone (previously The Gideons). I’m sure many people will remember the little red book from their own time in school and maybe have it somewhere safe? I’m sure our students would love to see them.
Challenge21
We are continuing the Challenge21 this week and we hope that there are some great ideas and actions taking place at home and in school. We would love to see how our students are getting on with their challenges so please do email photos and reports to Challenge21@st-nicholas.cheshire.sch.uk. If you are able to support their challenges with sponsorship, donations for the PTFA can be made through your parent pay account.

Music

Hidden Histories Composition Project.

Last term our Year 10 GCSE Music and Year 12 A Level Music classes were given a fantastic opportunity to work with a professional composer and the principal flautist from Manchester Camerata on a composition project. Pupils studied pieces by two lesser known composers, Florence Price and Lili Boulanger, and worked with composer James B. Price on creating their own ideas. The culmination of the project will be a short film tracking the progress of the piece and a recording of our pupils` compositions by members of Manchester Camerata. Diving into the world of Franchises with Puddle Ducks
On Friday 2nd July, one Year 10 Business Studies class were lucky to have a chance to interview Jo Stone, one of the co-founders of the franchise Puddle Ducks. The focus was on franchising and the way the business operates. We would like to thank Jo for giving us time out of her busy schedule as the talk was fantastic and really enhanced the students’ knowledge of this key topic. Other groups will be watching a recording of this interview to ensure all our Business Studies students receive the same, real-world experiences.
The Busy World of Business
On 7th July, Year 12 Business students were given a presentation by Operational Excellence Leader, Janice Twidale. Janice has worked in British Manufacturing for most of her life and discussed the operational topics of lean production and just-in-time processes with students. The talk was insightful and comprehensive and students really felt it embedded work completed in the classroom. Thank you Janice!
