Message from our Chaplain Mairie
Welcome back to all our students after a hopefully restful half-term. We continue to pray for our Year 11 and Year 13 students during their exam season and now for Year 10 and Year 12 as they prepare for their mock exams in the next few weeks.It has been lovely for me to visit some of our primary schools over these weeks as part of our partnership and transition programme. A special congratulations to all those in Year 3 who have been making their First Holy Communion.
Laudato Si – Request
Our staff are taking on the challenge of improving our outside environment, especially the prayer garden and pond area. We wonder if anyone has any suitable plants, pots, compost or other garden accessories that could help us develop these areas for the well-being of staff and students, especially as a tribute to Pope Francis and his love of the world around us.

Sacrament of Confirmation – St Mary’s, Middlewich and St Joseph’s, Winsford
These parishes will soon be looking to help prepare young people from St Mary’s (Middlewich) and St Joseph’s (Winsford) to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation.

New PTFA members wanted – could it be you?
Throughout your child’s journey here at St. Nicholas you will enjoy many interactions with our PTFA, which is made up of parents, teachers and friends of the school community. Everyone involved in the PTFA share a common purpose: to make a difference to our children and their families by raising awareness and money for projects and activities that school would not otherwise be able to fund.
Throughout the year we organise fundraisers which always include a Christmas and Summer Raffle which offer a wonderful array of prizes – even a holiday! We have held quiz & bingo evenings in school and we run a school lottery which helps to enhance our fundraising too.
We always like to help year 11 celebrate their Prom which is a wonderful occasion for the young students. We always provide the ice lollies at sports day and can be seen at school events serving teas and coffees.
We really do enjoy supporting school and we all feel a real sense of accomplishment knowing we can help not just our children but ALL of the pupils here at St. Nicholas Catholic High.

Science Club
Science Club will be running a CREST Bronze Award Project this term and so will be on every Friday lunchtime for years 7-10 in S5 working towards the certificate. The project will allow students to develop their enquiry, problem-solving and communication skills. Come along and work on the project collaboratively – All welcome!We have had several students working on their Silver Award Project this year, independently with a Science Mentor, and if you would like to do an independent project next year (Y9 and above) please go and see Mrs Pidsley in S5 for details on how to get started or come and do the Bronze project to get an idea of what is involved. A great opportunity to extend your Science learning beyond the classroom.

We’re excited to unveil the latest additions to our library shelves—a diverse and powerful haul of new books that offer something for every kind of reader. All books are categorised and given a maturity level. Some are available to everyone from Year 7 upwards while others can only be read by staff and sixth formers.

Well done to all Year 7 athletes who took part in the Year 7 Minor Athletic Competition last Tuesday.
They all performed really well and we now have four Mid-Cheshire Champions.

Sporting Success – Rafael Van Osselaer
Former St Nicholas student, Rafael van Osselaer has played his first rugby game for the Belgian U18 national team last weekend. Rafael, who plays club rugby for Stockport, also scored for his team.

St Nicholas Three Peaks Challenge
Half term meant that some of the Three Peaks explorers had the chance to conquer two of the three mountains in the challenge. It was two very different days with beautiful sun and clear skies at Scarfell and a very cold, wet and windy Snowdon the next day.Great experience and preparation as the real Challenge draws nearer.
Other preparations included a half marathon and a trail Marathon.

Hartford – Picnic in the Park
This year’s Picnic in the Park event will be on 13 July 2025. It will take place from 1pm – 4pm on Grange Park, Bradburns Lane, Hartford – see red pin on map https://maps.app.goo.gl/pJbaick9XSSQXb7e8
Picnic in the Park is a family event for Hartford residents, charities and community groups. There will be lots of activities and entertainment on offer, for example a DJ, Face Painter, cricket activities for children, funfair stalls, live music and more. The aim of the event is to come together as a village to socialise, relax and have fun. At the same time, the event enables charities and community groups to raise funds and connect with residents.
Hartford-based charities and community groups are invited to have free stalls at the event. These stalls need to be booked by contacting us: clerks@hartfordparishcouncil.org.uk.

Play French boules for free at the Village Hall
Want to play a fun new game in Hartford? Otherwise known as ‘French Boules’, Boccia is a sociable, inclusive Paralympic sport for all to enjoy. Throw, kick or use a ramp to propel a ball onto the court. The person who gets their ball nearest to the Jack wins!
Hartford Parish Council has installed a Boccia court at the rear of the Village Hall on Chester Road. The court is available to all Hartford residents, free of charge. You can also borrow Boccia balls and ball-ramps. To reserve the court and equipment, call 01606 784401 or email clerks@hartfordparishcouncil.org.uk. If you want to play within office hours (Mon – Fri), we can also arrange for the accessible toilet in the office porch to be open.
