Message from our Chaplain Mairie
Catholic Social Teaching
Last week we spent part of Mission Day looking at Catholic Social Teaching and members of our Sixth form attended a conference on this subject.
Catholic Social Teaching is a way of understanding how we live out our faith by what we do and how we behave. It is faith in action and comes out of scripture. A description that many people would recognise is working for the Common Good. This begins with The Dignity of the Human Person. We believe that every person is created by God as a unique and precious individual and that we have a responsibility to recognise and protect those in need. Our 4R’s show our understanding that we need to respect ourselves and each other. Our Mission Statement reminds us that ‘Everyone Matters’ and our Gospel Values for this term place service at the heart of all we do.  These elements are all part of the Commandments of Jesus to ‘Love one another’.
Food Hubs –  Very Green Grocery
As well as the support offered by the Foodbank, there are Food Hubs serving the local community.  Hubs are available to the whole community and, by using them, the community helps to address food waste. You can register as a member at your first visit, £4 per visit and take your shopping bags with you. More information from the hubs themselves or follow on Facebook – Very Green Grocery.
The days and venues are shown on the picture.
“What We’re Scared Of” author Keren David talks to year 7s
Last Friday, our Year 7s had the opportunity to experience a live virtual author talk with Keren David. Keren talked about her new book What We’re Scared Of and how her experiences as a Jewish woman inspired the story. Oscar Zatonski, Rachel Aldridge and Jack Daley submitted thoughtful questions which were put to Keren and evoked interesting discussion about her favourite books, characters and whether she would ever write a biography.

Cost of living support

It is a really challenging time for households throughout the Borough and families may be worried about the rising cost of energy bills, food, and transport. Families may want help accessing welfare rights, benefits and debt advice, support getting all the money they’re entitled to, or simply want to know more about national support put in place.  Whatever their money worries may be, the Council has put together some useful information to help which includes a wealth of information.
