Prayer for the start of Advent 
Loving God,
As we begin this season of Advent, we pause in the midst of our busy lives to remember Your promise of hope.
Help us to see hope in the small moments:

In the kindness of a friend,
In the laughter we share,
In the courage to keep going when things are hard.

Fill our hearts with hope that transforms us—
Hope that makes us patient,
Hope that makes us generous,
Hope that makes us ready to welcome You.

A Message from our Chaplain, Mairie

Advent at St Nicholas
This Sunday is the First Sunday of Advent and our Celebrations of the Word have described the season of Advent and its meaning for Christians and our school. Advent means ‘coming’ and reminds us of the need to prepare for the coming of the Christ Child at Christmas. In school, we will be noting the season with the colour purple, the Advent Wreaths, the Crib and our services in the chapel.
Advent Charity – Foodbank and SVP 
This time of reflection also inspires us to act, so our Advent charity challenge will be to collect groceries, baby goods and toiletries for the local community and Foodbank. The need within our local community continues every year and I am sure that the recent cold snap has caused many people to pause before putting the heating on. Your support for our challenge is very much appreciated and ensures that we can do our best help others.
Please send tins, dried goods, sweets and biscuits, toiletries, baby goods or pet food by Friday 12th December.
 Please check the use by dates for the end of January 2026
Thank you for the support for the CAFOD Harvest collection, together with the fundraising at Lent we were able to send a cheque for £1,000 to CAFOD to support their work helping others. Thank you for your continuing support for our charities including the Shoebox Appeal that was collected last week.
The Shrewsbury Pilgrimage to Lourdes 2026 
The Youth Pilgrimage to Lourdes is organised by the Shrewsbury Youth Mission Team and is open to young people aged 16 or above.  This will also be a milestone year for our Youth Pilgrimage, which celebrates its fifth anniversary.  The Shrewsbury Pilgrimage itself celebrates 75 years next year. The team anticipate it will be our largest youth pilgrimage yet, and they would be excited to welcome even more young pilgrims on this incredible journey. We hope to get the team into school to present an assembly to Year 11 and Sixth Form. The dates of the Youth Pilgrimage are Wednesday  29th July to Friday 7th  August 2026
This is a very worthwhile event to be involved in and all our students who have attended over the years have always gained a lot from the experience.

Young Poets Week
In celebration of Young Poet’s Week, a selection of students from years 7 – 9 attended the Poetry Masterclass in the library last week. The masterclass was delivered online by award winning poets Nikita Gill (@nikita_gill) and Karl Nova (@karlnova). Everyone enjoyed taking part in the poetry exercises and made great use of the hints and tips offered by Nikita and Karl.
Our talented students penned beautiful poems using the ‘repetition’ method, observation techniques and the ‘I come from…’ exercise.
Here’s a little taster of what they produced:
Today I rose,
As the waler froze,
It was warm in the house
However, I was still cold.

I wrapped up warm
Safe from harm.
In layers and scarves
However, I was still cold.

People around,
Safe and sound,
Warmth dancing in the air
However, I was still cold.

I felt hollow and empty,
While heat was plenty,
It swirled above me
However, I was still cold.
