A prayer to share

Loving God,
Thank you for the beauty and warmth of your creation.
Help us to care wisely for ourselves and to notice those who may need our help.
Give us hearts that are kind, generous and attentive, especially to the vulnerable and those who struggle in the heat.
May our words and actions bring comfort, refreshment and hope,
so that in caring for one another we reflect your love.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.

A Message from our Chaplain, Mairie

Hopefully we are heading into a more natural summer season but it has been a challenge for all of us to keep cool over the past week. This is also a time when we can look beyond our own comfort to the need of others.
We know heat can affect everyone differently. Some members of our community may find the weather particularly challenging, including younger children, older people, those with medical conditions, and anyone working outdoors. A simple act of kindness—checking that a friend is feeling well, offering someone a bottle of water, or making sure no one is left out in the sun—can make a real difference. Even leaving water out for our feathered and furred friends show an appreciation of the world we are called to care for.
In Catholic Social Teaching, we are called to recognise the dignity of every person and to work for the common good. Caring for one another, especially those who may be more vulnerable, reflects Christ’s command to “love your neighbour as yourself.”
As we enjoy the sunshine, let us also remember that our greatest warmth comes from the kindness we show each other. May we be a school community that looks after ourselves, looks out for others, and reflects God’s love in the small acts of care that brighten someone’s day.

Summer Holiday Support for Families

Families receiving Free School Meals (FSM) can apply for summer holiday food support through Cheshire West and Chester Council’s Crisis and Resilience Fund (CRF). Applications open on 30 June 2026 and close on 31 August 2026. Click here

The current FSM support arrangements will continue over the summer. From September 2026, CRF support will focus on households facing an unexpected financial crisis and applicants will need to explain their circumstances.

Also from September, all children in households receiving Universal Credit will qualify for FSM, extending eligibility to more families. Click here

The CRF can also help with emergency, housing and heating costs.

Year 7 Readathon

Year 7 Readathon
This week all students in Year 7 are participating in Readathon, a sponsored reading event for the charity Read for Good. Money raised is used to provide books and storytellers for children in hospital, including our local hospitals.
Students have been asked to read for a minimum of 2 hours this week and they will be seeking sponsorship from friends and family only.
Students will be reading for 15 minutes each English lesson this week and their SPARX homework also counts towards their minutes total.

Please encourage students to read at home and thank you for your support with this really important event.

Reading on the Three Peaks

donate here

As you’ve probably already been made aware, 26 members of staff bravely took on the Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge last weekend. I decided to take the opportunity to catch up with everyone and find out what they’re currently reading.

Mrs Hill is currently reading Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt. A beautiful story and now also a Netflix film.

Mrs Buckley is currently listening to the IT audio book. At 45 hours long, she could listen to it whilst doing the Three Peaks four times over!

Mr Brown has gone for a thriller with Elevator Pitch by Linwood Barclay. Could’ve done with an elevator last Friday. Maybe not this one though!

Four people board an elevator in Manhattan. Each presses the button for their floor, but the elevator climbs, non-stop, to the top where it pauses for a few seconds, before dropping.

Right to the bottom of the shaft.

Mrs Aston has just finished reading The Great Alone by Kristin Hannah. It’s an amazing read and Mrs Aston has loved all of Kristin Hannah’s books so far.

Ms. Roberts is on a re-read of all the books in the Sarah J. Maas universe before the release of the new ACOTAR books in October. Three down, FIFTEEN to go!

Next up is Mr Martin with the slightly more highbrow pick of Man Booker prize winner Wolf Hall

Mrs Miller is currently reading The Names by Florence Kemp. After a great storm, Cora goes to register the birth of her son. Her controlling husband expects her to name their son after him – but she hesitates. What’s in a name? The story then splits into three different timelines as the chosen names take three versions of Cora’s son in different directions.

Mrs Mckenna has recently finished My Friends by Fredrik Backman. She was gutted when it finished and is now eager to read some more of Backman’s books.

There’s still time to sponsor the remarkably brave people who took on The Yorkshire Three Peaks last weekend. Here’s the link in case you missed it the first time https://gvwhl.com/3ZS1P
